There is a loud popping noise close to my steering wheel on my 380sl whenever I go over a bump and when making a sharp turn. I replaced the shocks, since they needed replacing anyway but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Sounds like worn out steering coupler. If so you'll also have substantial steering wheel play?

I had the same problem....it was a combition of the steering coupler, steering gear adjustment and a host of other issues in the suspension, I am waiting to get it back from the shop.....RS
