Replacing shifter bushings

Hello, all. New to the forum.

My shifter has some major play, so I bought a shifter bushing, as seen in the pic, and two bushings for the linkage below. All of the online instructions seem to address the linkage bushings underneath the car but not the shifter one, which wasn't even on the shaft when I bought the car.

What's the best way to get the shifter bushing onto the center shaft? Do I have to remove the seats to remove the console to remove those two ingeniously placed bolts on the left to get to the house that Jack built?

Also, does the flat, washer-end go up against the housing or towards the shifter? Thanks, everyone!

I can't be of much help, but here's a video on installing the bushings.

I actually came across the video earlier. Unfortunately it doesn't explain the shifter bushing, only makes note of a faulty one. Really just a plug for their niche bushing fitters.

...then I recommend you do a search on the 107 forum at benzworld.org.
I'm positive you will find everything you wanted to know about removal of the shifter and installation of the bushings.
