1972 350 SL
350 SL engine noise
I have a 350 SL with 4.5 Liter engine. The engine has developed a very loud whine noise and any engine acceleration. Happens in park or in gear. I have disconnected each belt to eliminate A/C, power steering, Altenator, water pump etc. Noise still there. Just replaced the water pump so thought it was possibly bearing but it still occurs with water pump disconnected. seems to be centered in engine in front. timing chain possibly?

You've checked everything I would have...
Timing chain is possible, and it never hurts to check regularly regardless though "whine" wouldn't cover what I think of as timing chain noise.
