Looking for brake "pipes" for 1982 500SL

Hey all,

I have a 1982 500SL euro import and the ABS brake "pipes" that come off the engine and go to each wheel are rusted out in a couple places. Every time I search for brake lines it gives me the "soft" lines that go right to the calipers.

I realize that finding these "pipes" in the US is probably near impossible since they have to come out of another early ABS 500SL.

If someone has the full set or knows where i can find them/get them made, you will make my year.

Thanks.

The steel lines that go from the ABS unit to the calipers? They are probably the same as the North American 380SL with ABS. You can verify and obtain the parts from the Mercedes Classic Center: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c1...irvine-ca.html

Thanks for the quick response. I have tried looking up pictures of the engine bay of a 380sl with ABS around that year or even the '85 model where it is supposed to come standard with ABS but I can't find the location of the hub in that engine bay. It's very easy to see in the 500sl (passenger side, front, behind headlight) which leads me to believe they may have moved it for the 380sl.

Either way, I emailed Thomas as you suggested so I hope to hear back with good news.

I am still interested in hearing from other people about this issue in case Thomas replies with the same thing I've heard from the local mercedes parts dealers around here. "that's too old" or "they didn't make a 500SL in '82".

450SL
Most Mercedes dealer part counter people are ignorant on older models. Some dealers will not even service or sell parts for non North American 107s. I have run into this before with my 500SL.
Anyway all 107s have the ABS unit located in the same place. I think the hard lines will be the same as the 560SL but am unsure as the 560 uses larger brake calipers.
The EPC is useless on the lines for 500SL.

Ok, so I was given part numbers but can't find pictures at all to make sure it's the right parts before ordering.

Further info in case it helps out with the details of what I need:
I slightly mis-spoke with what I am looking for. What I need are the steel lines that go from the ABS Pump to the Master Cylinder. What happened was the battery leaked onto the part of the lines that pass under the battery housing and corroded them away at that spot.

I also only need the lines for the two front wheels and not the back.

It turns out there are lots of different lines under the hood and under the car and simply saying I need "brake lines" doesn't clear anything up. Sorry about that.

Hopefully that is now enough info to find what I need. I also took a ton of pictures and can post if necessary.

Thanks.
