I'm new here. I just bought a 1986 560SL on Saturday. It ran like crap when I picked it up since it had not been used much. I added fuel and oil treatment and fresh premium gas and drove it 40 miles home. It got me there, cruising along at 55 - 70 miles an hour just fine.
The next few days, whenever I started it, it ran horribly, barely staying running, stuttering, surging, stalling, etc. at low speeds, but once it warmed up, it would drive fine around town.
Tonight I took it out for a drive and after warming up a bit, the automatic transmission would seem to shift properly. It was running 5,000 RPM to get to 40 MPH. It felt like it was in 2nd gear the whole time.
Can anything cause this besides the obvious (Transmission)?
