Rescued a 560 now have a question
I am new to the R107 (own a R 230) and found a ‘88 that has been sitting for some time. Got the car running and now have a question about operation. When moving the gear selector from park to reverse the transmission shifts smoothly bu after a moment the rear of the car rises as torque is transferred. No clunks or clangs and the rear diff doesn’t rock or move. The drive shaft turns slightly when the shift is made and a moment later rotates another 1/4turn causing the rear to rise.
When going from neutral to drive the car sits down a bit in the rear but not as much. Is this normal for the R107 or is there an issue with the differential.

Just back from a ride in our 1986 560Sl with 32K original miles (we are original owners).
I too noticed a difference like you mentioned when shifting into reverse when originally moved out of the garage.
I idle @ 800 RPM in either drive or neutral if that helps.
