86 560SL. Which oil to use?
Which oil to use on my new 1986 mercedes 560SL. I live in canada. I want to use 0w40 but 0w40 isnt in the manual... can anyone help me if 0w40 is good oil to use? Manual states 15w40/15w50 & 10w40/10w50 for year round use. Please help me. Thank you in advance

I've used Mobil 1 0-40 for years in my 560SLs. The advice to look in the owner's manual will not yield contemporary advice. Oil science has evolved over the last 34 years. I'm pretty sure 0-40 wasn't available in 1986. The Mobil 1 website has a feature that matches your car with the type of oil--------Mobil recommends 0-40 for the 560SL My younger son had a tribology professor in an masters in engineering that was the head of Mobil 1's R&D. The Professor was kind enough to answer myriad esoteric questions I submitted to my son. Mobil 1 0-40 is a pretty safe pick.....
