i recently aquired an 1982 380 sl. ran and drove fine. installed new plugs,plug wires,dist.cap and rotor. also replaced icm. now car wont start,does not show any spark at plugs. what happened?

Welcome! Please post a photo of the SL. Retrace your work and be very careful the correct parts were installed correctly. Also try posting the question in the section of the site for your year and model, where owners will see it and can reply.

I have heard of ignition issues after work similar to what you have done. I assume you have re-checked your assembly to be sure everything is installed correctly. Apparently the system is somehow sensitive to the parts used. What parts did you install? It seems the overal resistance of the secondary circuit is important, so the correct parts need to be used. I believe the cap is supposed to have 1 kohm, the rotor 1 kohm, the wires 1 kohm, and the plugs are to be non-resistor.
Also, why did you replace the idle control valve?
