Considering the value of the used SL65s, obviously they've made too many.

The cheapest one I have seen listed is 169 and with a MSRP of 179 I would say those are better numbers than a 55. I think since they are still semi-new and the initial owners are still driving them they still have a little time before the real price drop.

I was taking into consideration what those people PAID for their SL65's .. obviously not even close to MSRP. People have been paying well over $200k for that car .. so it being worth $169k is a huge drop.

Just like the 55's, MB made too many... I see 55's all over the place. I've seen quite a few different 65's as well.

What someone would pay over sticker is there problem. The money they lost has nothing to do with the value of the car. All that means is demand was high so prices should be even firmer. When a ford gt sells for 225 and next year can be had for 150 doesn't mean the cars value has dropped 75k. It means the morons paying way over sticker are drying up.

Point taken .. but even today you can't get a SL65 at MSRP. So buying CPO makes sense and those that got rid of theirs got burned bad after a very short time.

If you want a SL65 at window I can offer up a few dealers that would be happy to sell. The fact is these cars are sinking on the lots in many places.

Even at the MSRP, I'd buy something else at the price.

The SL55 however is hard to beat at the below MSRP prices people are getting them at.

I don't understand why anyone thinks that MB would do anything other than make as many as they can sell, after all it is a business. Any undersupply or oversupply will be temporary as supply and demand reach steady state over time. Prices will reflect this.

The engine can also be used in the S and the CL. The body and frame are used in the SL350, 500, 55 and 600 as well as the 65.

Well, what they NEED to do is price it so that there is less demand and make the brand exclusive again, NOT put cheaper and cheaper parts in them so that they can price them dirt cheap and sell thousands of each of the high end models.

SL65 value

IMO the value of the 65 will be shown some time in the future. It is a genuine supercar that will be made in low numbers. If history dictates what will happen - the price will dip, level off, and then start to increase. That trend may take 20 years. Look at the 300SLs of the 50s and 60s. I had a SL600 that was a complete kick to drive. Wonderful car. I did NOT buy it expecting it to hold it's value (it didn't), but I had an incredible amount of joy driving the car for several years. Few people knew what it was other than another white SL, except for other enthusiasts who recognized that the exhaust was not stock, nor where the size of the tires. And they paid attention. Close attention. (As did the California Highway Patrol.)
