This has been done before so many times. Don't be lazy, do a search.

The SL55 has less torque than the SL600 (700Nm vs 800Nm).

See if you can test drive both back to back.
It's a world of a difference when you compare the two from regular driving because of the throttle response. Seems IMO the SL55 has quicker feedback. Maybe it's just in the head.

SL600 has more torque and hp btw.

Both are great cars... you can't go wrong w/ either. AMG is a more sporty feel and a deeper growl, the 600 more refined (and perhaps a tad bit quicker).

SL55 AMG
Here we go again. You need to drive both and make a decision. They're both outstanding GTs but you won't get an objective view on this forum. Me, I'm in the SL55 camp, otherwise I'd have an SL600 but no one has come up with an indepenent review whch recommends the SL600 over the SL55, unlike the reverse. There, I've thrown down the gauntlett for you SL600 drivers...

The SL is not an ideal winter car even with snow tyres. Buy an SL55 for summer and a decent 4X4 for winter.

I chose the SL600 over the SL55 for three reasons. First and foremost, I found the seats in the 600 more comfortable. Second, I like the fact that it has a quieter exhaust than the 55. Third, the 600 has a softer ride than the 55. I thought this important because many of the roads I travel are not in good shape.

As far as driving in the winter in the 600, I reserve judgement because my car is equipped with summer performance tires. My single experience in the snow was downright frightening. You need to hear from someone who has all-season or winter tires on his SL.

Jacks comments emphasise the different between the SL55 and the SL600 - the SL55 is intended to provide a more sports-oriented drive, the SL600 is the more sublime luxury experience. Different flavours of basically the same car. The power and torque of both engines will overwhelm the tyres on marginal surfaces so not a good car to have as your only car in winter, even with winter typres.

If you can't afford the SL55 as a second car (especially in winterwonderland) I'd say it is not a good choice. Instead get a second hand SL500 (or SL350) and ML500 for the same money. You won't regret.

It's a stupid question anyway. Everybody knows that if you're under 57.5 years old you should definitely get the AMG. In fact Mercedes dealers are forbidden by the AMG statutes to sell you an SL600 alltogether unless you can prove you're an old fart.

I guess that's why I was turned down on the SL600, LOL. My SL55 was released from the VPC Thursday. Yup, I'm a soon to be newbie.

The SL55 is the performance car. The SL600 is a sled. Autocar compared the 600, 55 and 65 and found that the 55 was the sporting choice.

Question Hello NOTKTS, I just wondered about your Murci

Hello NOTKTS, I was just amazed by your Murcielago, what a beautiful car!! Do you have any vids with sound that you could post? Do you have any performance stats on it since the Hennessey engine upgrades? 1/4 mile times, zero to 60 MPH improvements, etc.. What other things can Hennessey do with the Murci engine? Can they twin-turbocharge it or supercharge it? Wow, what a cool car ......

P.S. -- What do you like more about the Vanquish S over the SL 65? Obviously I'm sure you already know ofcourse that if you Renntech chip the SL 65 it'll smoke the Vanquish S quite easily ... actually a stock SL 65 would most likely beat a Vanquish S in a straight line no problem .... The SL 65 is definitely going to need a much much wider set of tires though ... I think those 345 series wide tires on that StarTech Viper would look great on an SL 65 Renntech ... just widen the fenders alot and there ya go ...
Speaking of which, does anyone know if someone has done this, tried this, or is thinking of attempting some serious fender widening work on an SL 65? An SL 65 with those wide tires and a serious body package upgrade, 6-tip exhaust, Carlsson carbon fiber racing wing and the scissor doors would be too wicked ....

I don’t have any vids yet, but me and some friends of mine are going to Orlando Speed World in a month or somewhere around then. There will def. be cameras on the cars and in the stands. I'm having a few other exotic friends tag along. The norms are a SL and CL 65, a E55 or SL55, a 360, Diablo, CGT, maybe a GT2 and 2 NSXs. These cars come from all over Florida but mostly Orlando and Miami. When they took the car out to do performance stats they recorded a 0-60 of 4.1 after 0-60 of 3.5/3.4 with a good launch. They said it would trap around 130 and run in the mid/low 11s. I don’t know but its a totally different car now, a lot faster. Tuning was a huge problem because they didn’t want to mess with it to much so they played it a little on the safe side. The problem is that no Gallardos will play with big brother anymore. They can do twin-turbo that will be 800Whp, but no one has yet to do it besides their "donor" car. Thats just wild, I wish I would of gotten a ride in it. I think that they said it would hit 60 in under 3 seconds . Too much. But the reason why I like the Aston is its sound, its name, its heritage and I like it because James Bond would have one. Also the license plates AM 007 are still up for grabs in Florida. But its not a drop top or daily driver. O well.

I did mean on this that som times i live in Estonia/Tallinn and som times Ireland/Tralee
In estonia my parents live and in irelnad i am working.Thats why i am talking about Esonia/Ireland

But the sl 55 amg got winter mode and if i insatll propper winter tiers then i think it will be ok to drive in winter with sl 55 amg.
The point is this that i like evry thing about sl 55 amg it si brity car it is fast car it have perfect performance ,perfect interior and perfect roof packing system.
here in estonia is winter 5 months in year and thats it.Not too mutch snow and not less. Here we got speed limits in town like 50 km/h maximum in city and owt city 90 km/h
But in sumer here are like raceses and many estonians got cars that have good performance and why sholdnt i have and drive it winter. They do.
In winter i have seen 3 porsche carerras driving.I am stil thinkig of buying it.And if i realy cant drive with it in winter then i wil by second cheaper car for winter but i wont leav the sl 55 amg cause i like this car too much.
