You need a roll bar in your car when going 11:49 or faster..

Exclamation Treynor, what if ...

3 things that might be able to be done Treynor that could seriously make it even faster ... and I don't think you've tried yet .... I don't know if you would ever consider these but here they are (I'm sure everyone has already thought of these anyways since it's just basic common sense):

Try to replace as many of the panels on the car as possible with carbon fiber ones ... you'll save hundreds upon hundreds of pounds right there, ... Atlanta Classic Cars (770-279-3686) could arrange this most likely ..... the guy working there named Nash Solansky (and ofcourse the guys at MBWerks in Atlanta) could do anything like that to your car that your heart desires ... they can even arrange to have the fenders widened enough to put some really huge tires or gigantic drag radials on it ... that might help significantly with the traction problem right there .... Call him he can do absolutely anything to a Benz .... the sky's the limit ...

And ofcourse the 3rd thing is to take out the current 5-speed auto transmission completely and put in a really strong racing 4-speed auto like they put in those 1,000 horsepower Vipers ..... That way Renntech can really let loose with the 65's engine and bump the horsepower way past the 800's and make the torque go past 1,000 lb/ft .....

With these 3 changes your car will be dipping well into the 9's in the 1/4 mile ... your zero to sixty will drop way below 3 seconds......

Roll bar or roll cage? The SL has a roll bar.

I think he already has that car....his Viper. But seriously, if Treynor wanted a tubbed 9 second Nova, he probably could have one already for alot less than the money it would take to do those things. Last i checked, carbon fiber is pretty expensive, and he might destroy the integrity of the car.

Lack of HP and Torque are not the problems on the SL65, traction is.

I agree with Doctodd33, the SL is what it is and it is not a race car. What makes it fun is that we can take a stock or nearly stock SL65 to the drag strip and with the top down run in the 11's with the seat warmers and massage funtion on. it is a total blast.

Much cheaper ways to go 9 seconds than starting with a SL65.

I would be concerned about the differential and other drive line components like drive shafts long before the trans.

If wider tires alone would solve the traction issues, I still have faith that our friendly AMG engineers would have thought that up. I would never put anything stronger than drag radials on an AMG car or be prepared to leave a bunch of metal at the starting line. The car is a well balanced package. Stray too far from that balance and you will certainly find things to break.

My .02, enjoy!

There is more than enough power on the SL65. Even with drag radials running low pressure, tires still break loose in its stock configuration.

One area of improvement is the computer control that bogs down the engine (I am not talking about ESP) when the tires start losing traction. Recovering and overcoming the computer "take-over" equates to lost time. To get a good launch, feathering the throttle by an experienced driver can yield better results.

Also, in talking to the engineers at AMG, they advised NOT to go past 780ft-lbs of crankshaft torque as this number is the mechanical limitation of the transmission and half-shafts on the 65.

into his mbz.

Wait 18 months, and pick up a lightly-used S65. You know you want it

Went to look at a couple of them.
They would not take a $1 under sticker

I have heard others asking 7k under.

You are right...I do want it!

OK, back to FAST SL65 talk.

Does renntech remove the top speed limiter as well, because i cant go higher than 160 its really annoying, why do they put a limiter on a 600hp car?

Very nice RENNtech moves the limiter to 186 - that limiter stays, because the tires are not rated the combination of weight and speed above that point. I've never had a problem keeping it under 185

10.00-11.49, you need a 5pt bar. Main hoop (2pt), rear bars (2pt) and a driver's door bar (1pt), running between your elbow and shoulder.
