SL55 Sagging Rear End
Hi
My '03 SL55's tail end sags after sitting a few days. This might not concern me except that it's only the left rear side that does so. Start it up, put it in gear, and it levels off.
The dealer says they don't have a way to physically check the components of the suspension system, but that the car throws a fault code indicating the car sits too long. He suggests I drive it for consecutive days to see if the sag occurs then.
Anyone have/had a similar problem?

if my sl55 car sits for 2 months or so during the winter the suspension has gone down once. if you start the car and hit the height adjusting button to raise the car up to the two higher levels the car will rise and reset itself. after that it is fine. this also happened on a 2001 cl500 i had, but only after sitting for an extended time. i have only seen this twice, but never without the long time of unuse.

The most probable cause is a leaky strut, or rear valve block. They tend to leak internally sometimes, bleeding off pressure causing the car to sag.

my front was sagging almost a full inch after only 10 hours of parking, when the car had 400 miles on it. MB ended up replacing the ENTIRE system due to metal contamination in the ABC fluid. Among the parts replaced were:
pump
all rubber and hard lines
valves
distribution blocks
all 4 struts
This was not a cheap job, but it was done under warranty. Car is perfect now, thanks to Tony @ MBSL
