Topsider.......first oil change
I'm almost about to hit 5K on my new car. For those familar with the topsider (Griots Garage Version), does it remove most if not all the sludge/grit in the oil.
If not, I'll drain the oil the old fashioned way.

Here’s the deal... When you remove the oil, make sure the oil is warm (not hot). This suspends the contaminants in the oil so that when the oil is sucked out, the contaminates will be as well. There should be no sludge under normal conditions since the oil is synthetic in nature.

Mark, here in the US, I have found that owners are more concerned with the FSS 10,000+ mile oil change than elsewhere in the world. It has been common practice in the US for years to change oil every 3000 miles. However, with synthetic oils we have seen the interval lengthend. I however, always do an oil change on a new vehicle at the frist 1000-1500 mile point, then every 5000 miles thereafter. Just makes me feel better.
Also, have you seen the Mercedes oil filter ? That thing is so small I question its ability to adequetly filter for 10,000+ miles. I know synthetic oil most likly will last 10,000 miles, however, I feel the oil filter is going to be the weak link.

I like to do some of this maintenance myself, like changing brake pads, etc. I like to change the oil with RedLine Synthetic.
It's the same situation where I would rather spend the time waxing my car than bring it to my dealer for service , and have him do a complimentary wash or wax.

that's a good one....I'm going to have to remember that one "complimentary swirl and scratch".
How's that "Z" working out for you. I usually use P21S Gloss or 3M SMR followed by Blitz or P21s Wax. I'm going to give "Z" a try, with a couple coats of Z5, with an layer of Z2 in the middle and the last coat will be Z2 also. If I don't like it, I can always Dawn wash it away.
I've seen Z on alot of cars and alot of them lacked the depth that caranuba produces. I've seen black cars that was just to mirrorlike for my taste. In the sun they look almost blue.
