Engine check light keeps illuminating

The yellow engine check light shaped like an engine keeps illuminating on the instrument cluster and then stays on. This has happened 4 times in the last 4000 miles. Each time on taking car back to dealer they have found no fault and merely reset the system to extinguish the light.

Each time dealer has asked if there is any downgrade in performance which there isnt.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for it?

Thanks

Sounds like to me. That light won't come one without a reason. At least a real problem or a faulty sensor. They should look harder for the problem.

Thank you both for your help. Any other comments from anyone with this problem?

Is there a code stored? That should tell them where to start looking. Sometimes the emissions systems are tricky to diagnose. I once had a leaky gasket on the gas cap in a 911 that took a couple of visits to the dealer to get fixed. It was such a slow leak it would take days for the light to come on.

That said, your dealer should be able to fix this. I'm sure you know that. Have you considered taking it to anyther dealer?

Car went into dealer yesterday for factory SBC recall work and they also found why the engine check light kept illuminating. The suction pump relay was going open circuit so they simply replaced it. I asked why this had not been diagnosed on the three previous occasions; they said no fault code had previously been displayed and showed me the results of the previous tests.
