:::Black or Silver?:::
So i'm wondering.. Diamond Silver on red interior, or the Obsidian Black w/ red interior?
I already had a diamond silver on charcoal and am getting a newer '05 or '06, so now i'm trying to decide if i want diamond silver again w/ berry on the inside, or to change over to obsidian black w/ red
For reference, i have black wheels that i will slap on
This is my old car in diamond silver for reference:
This is what it will probably look like in black:
(But with red interior of course)

2010 ZR1 2011 JGC Overland 2013 ML63 on order
Great Question.. I posed this question a few months back as a poll in the CLS amg forum. Approx 75% voted for black.
What did I do??? Ordered black of course
Black makes the SL55 or SL65 look freaking amazing. You would have to be
to get another silver one if you have the choice. That Black one looks just plain BADASS
Happy decision making..

F350 Diesel, CTS-V
I had a black 65 and now I have a silver 65. Both look amazing, but black is a love affair that requires too much time to maintain. I already have another black ride, so I took the easy route this time.
You can't go wrong either way, though

'06 E350 Iridium Silver with pano
Definitely Black with red....
1. You already had a silver car.
2. This a 2 door/2 seater roadster and black would make it look aggressive and hot! If it was maybe a 4 door sedan....then silver would make it more classy.

SLK 230
I seem to differ....
HI,
I have read this debate before and I didn't reply then but I hope you don't mind me giving my 2 pence/cent worth
.
The beauty of the SL is the lines and the curves and the air ducts and the side vents....in silver I feel these really stand out whereas in black they seem to be more hidden. As a result my view is that lighter colours with a dark interior really show off the car. Black is a beautiful colour and sure it makes the car look very pantherlike - but it does hide the very things which I think should be shown off. To draw an analogy....I saw a dark aston martin vanquish the other day - sure it looked very sexy but only on closer examination did I notice the ducts and the subtle curves on the machine which if it was a lighter colour they would have stood out.....
So in short my view is get a dark coloured car for a car which doesn't have a great deal to show about it, e.g. the old SLK.....but the new SLK or the SL has very subtle curves/lines on them which need to be shown off and so light colours suit.
Hope that helps

Very good point!
This is exactly what I was thinking. I DO realize that black requires lots of care, but I drive my SL about once a week and it lives most of its life in a garage. I have a white Range Rover for the daily duty (most people think silver hides dirt... man... white does wonders as well). In terms of care & swirl marks, i'm very familiar because I used to own a black M3 and also a black S-class. However, when my car starts looking swirled I send it to my local body shop to do a professional detail (once every 6 months). NOW, my question is-- when a black SL is clean and waxed, CAN you see the lines and details and curves? Unfortunately most of the black SL's i've seen around here are all dirty, and so are the ones sitting on the dealer lots..haha

I'll just make a comment about the front. The air ducts on the AMG bumper are what differentiate an SL55 from an SL500. These ducts and their shape is clearly visible on a silver car. On a black car, they dissapear. If you get the car in black, have the grilles painted silver. If the car is silver, leave them black. Kleemann does this on their cars. Notice the black car with silver grilles.

I will agree with you that white does hide the dust and swirls as good as silver ( I have one of each in those colors as well). However even when detailed, they cannot compete with the black in the same state.

and just for fun...
If you've got the knowhow and willpower to keep in clean and swirl free, there is NO way to beat black on a benz
