Smythe European in San Jose told my dad that the SL55 won't be out for another year and that they are not even taking orders yet. Told him to wait, but he took the 500 anyway.

What are they smoking ? Sounds like maybe they didn't get the right information. Maybe they may not be getting any SL55's this year, however, other dealers have already started receiving thier allocation in the Mercedes order system.

I persoanlly have seen at least 1 US Spec SL55 on the streets as well.

Maybe the salesman didn't like the way my dad looked. Maybe he said to himself, "I don't wanna see this guy drivin an SL55!!!"

Still not listed on MBUSA.COM aside from "future models". I guess people who have a US spec one already must be cable to call the shots at their dealer. And no sticker price yet also...

I just received my production slot for the SL55 with a build date in October, so they are definitely coming

I still haven't heard a price, but was told that the base price without gas guzzler, etc. would be around $116,000.

Guess I'll wait and see...

3 SL55s on our vehicle report
3 SL55s just showed up yesterday on our daily vehicle report.
The first is scheduled for production in the second decade (10 day period) of August. We should have it 30 days after it comes off of the line, the end of Sept. probably. The other 2 are scheduled for production late Oct. and mid Dec. So we should deliver 2 by year end and one in Jan.

They are coming!

Boo2: Check Hacienda Motors in Pleasanton, CA. They were pretty good, so is the dealer in SF on van ness. Also I do believe it will be out this year because i just got the new Mercedes Momentum magazine and it is listed as a model, however the E55 AMG is not listed. It says SL55 Coupe/Roadster AMG performance-modified 5.5 liter, 493-horsepower, V-8. It also still says 355 horsepower for the S55 and CL55. And the S600 says 362 horsepower. looks like no news of the new engines for those cars yet.

The MBUSA website is never updated this soon, it most likely won't be updated until atleast September.

The 55's are in most major cities where there are the typical "Big Shots" that need the big boy toys! Basically LA, New York, Miami, etc.

Boo2: I went out of state. The problem is (as I understand it), dealers pushing out ~100 cars/month will receive about 4 SL55's a year. And it drops very drastically at an accelerated rate from there. PM me re the dealer.

It doesn't have to fall very far from 4 a year to nothing....

What I don't get is that if a dealer is getting 4 a year, how is it that (according to some one else who posted), one in three SLs is an SL55????? The SL500 is rare, but the SL55 is super-rare....

Partial Answer
I don't really know if it is true that one of every three SL's coming off the line is a 55, but I am looking at the June edition of the Japanese auto magazine GenroQ and note that the European Tuners Brabus, Kleeman, and Carlsson are all using the 55 model as the basis for their SL versions variously rebadged as Brabus SL55 K8, Carlsson CM50K, and Kleeman SL50K. The size and quantity of ads by those companies in the various Japanese car magazines suggests a large number of the larger engined SL's are being diverted through fleet purchases by the tuners just to satisfy the etuner market in Japan and other countries outside of the US.

Re: SL55 not out for another Year?
There are only a few SL55's currently on boats, several at the Bremen port waiting for a boat, and a large number, relatively speaking, currently being produced or scheduled within a few days.

They are definitely coming as previously posted. ...RAB
