New 7 Speed?? I didn't know AMG made a 7 speed??
I just spoke with my salesman, he told me SL63 will arrive next summer as an '07 model.
Thanks for that info.

The 7 Speed AMG tranny is currently on the SLK55's. I'm pretty sure that AMG is going to use them on the new Naturally Aspirated V8...though I've also heard that this new transmission cannot handle very high tq and hp numbers, so it may not be used if the new V8 is turbocharged.
Speaking of the Turbocharged V8...that engine will be INSANE. I really hope AMG does it.

NEW AMG ENGINE IN REPLACEMENT for SL55 & 65
I've red an article saying that the 63 WILL NOT BE FITTED on the SL BUT they are designing a new engine (probably based on the 63) but it will come with a turbo (not sure if its a twin or single). That is only for the 55's replacement. For the 65 I red, power will be up to near or more than 700 HP! and you can tell that because based form the new 63 engine, power is already out at more than 500HP so imagine a turbo on it. There will be two (2) V-8 engines, the first one will have an output of 560+HP and the latter one will be stroked up to 6.8 liter turbocharged and will pump out 690+HP.

Interesting to note that MB also has that new S550 class NA 5.5 (380hp) to play around with don't they? If the 6.3 doesn't find its way into the AMG base model SL (currently the SL55), maybe a SC or Turbo version of this SOHC V-8 does?
With the current 5.5 we had both SC (G55, E55, SL55, S55, CLS55, and CL55) and NA (C55, ML55, and CLK55) versions. Does anyone else find it odd that MB is debuting the 6.3 in the M class? Will the future SL AMG buyers be put off by the fact that they can find similar HP and Torque numbers in MB's midline SUV? I'd expect more output in the high end cars.

Mike P, you can find that article in the current issue of Automobile Mag (with the Silver Z4 Coupe as the cover page) and look for the pages where they compared the M6 with the CLS55. Somwhere towards the end, you can read about what BMW M is currently doing as well as what AMG has to offer. It was written there that the AMG 63 engines would be fitted for the CLK, E, R, ML, S and for the SL. It will be fitted with a new engine and I think, for the new engines, it would be also use on the upcoming new CL and even 2007 G class. The 2 engines would be both V8 and both are turbocharged but one of the engines will be stroked to 6.8 liters producing nearly 700hp which probably would replace the 65, probably, not sure of that. It did not mention there that there would be a SL63 and if there were any, I think they should have wrote that right? what do you think?

I think I read somewhere that AMG is going to make its own engines from now on and stop modifying MB engines like they always have (please correct me if I'm wrong). If this is true, then the 550 engine is not going to be super/turbocharged. But even so, that won't stop companies like Brabus, Kleeman, Renntech, etc from doing so.

I was under the impression that the 63 was to be NA and the whole reason it was being built was because the 65 has too much torque for the new 7 speed transmission. With this motor they would have hi hp but less tq.
I don't think Hp is a problem for the transmission, torque is. If this is true than ALL 6.3 engines will have the 7 speed transmission.
