I was at the Mercedes Dealer today... when I saw a SL65. I could tell because of the Front end...

But it is a SL55... with the AMG Performance Package. Same brakes and front end as the 65

I didn't know you could order it this way. Anyway here are a couple of Pictures.

The red one is the SL55, Silver is a 65.

MB Manhattan has a black one next to a silver SL65. I just love the 65 wheel color though.

I also saw the black SL55 in MB Manhattan today, but did not see the 65. Maybe it already be sold!

yup the $15,000 performance package option.. even most dealers don't know it exists since it's so rare..

This is a wonderful package IMHO but you need to bring the car to the track if you really want to appreciate it.

Its the 030 AMG Package and like someone else said, most dealers don't even know about it. The salesman I spoke with at Feltcher Jones Newport Beach didn't know about it.

Its a great package and I'm definately getting it when I order the 07 55 for myself.

I was there this morning (Tuesday) and yup, the 65 is gone.

What were you doing there? Service or shopping?

In Europe, the Performance Package also gets you a bigger oil cooler, bigger 2nd fuel pump, Y rated tyres and derestricted to 186MPH as-well. (needs the larger cooler/pump or the engine gets too hot or too little fuel), and nasty things happen without Y rated tyres at 186mph ;-)

- We dont get your type of packaging (i.e 030 AMG Package), we tend to be able to pick and chose individual bits

I wouldn't swear to it.. but I do believe the salesman mentioned a couple of those items as part of the Perf. package. I know I heard the 186 mph limiter part

you can tell by the wheels. (dead give away) all 65 amg's have the gunmetal wheels. and the 55's have the silver.

Yeah Too often for stupid things that the dealer should've fixed during the previous visit. This time was just for a new NYS inspection

BTW - the SL65 is now in the Park Ave showroom.

From my understanding, the 030 package in U.S. gets everything except the bigger oil cooler. Not sure about it, but didn't see it on the list of the MBUSA website and on my window sticker.

Especially since AMG recently announced the VMAX will also be included in US 030 package. Before it wasn't. The car must be ordered with it, no retrofitting possible I believe (of the VMAX that is).

The 030 package is great, but I wish that we had it in '03 when I got mine. However, 300kph is not derestricted! At least for $350 and an ECU flash by Oliver let's the car go...........

I recently drove a 2006 SL55 with the performance package. (My sl55 was in for maintenance) The posi rear, upgraded brakes and suspension were a significant upgrade to a stock sl55. You have to spend a lot of coin, ($14,000 list), but a completely different experience. I highly recommend it if you are an aggressive driver and want better braking and cornering.

Recently bought a used fully optioned SL55 including the 030 performance package. Was the 030 option available for 2008? I have not seen any mention of 2008 SL55's with the 030 performance package so that is why I'm asking. My 07 is red/black with 7200 miles and it may be the only one like it as the few red ones with the 030 option seem to have the lighter colored interior. Apparently fewer than 60 SL55's were ordered with the 030 option. Feel very fortunate to have found my SL55 on EbayMotors of all places................rather be lucky than smart anytime ! ! !

Did purchase another two years in addition to the 1 year warranty that came with the car. Felt that this was almost as good as buying the car new with four years coverage, but with a 50% haircut.

No, I bought the red/black car from the MB dealer in North Houston. Looks like the other one you mentioned sold as well. It was Red with the lighter colored interior, did not have distronic and had 14K miles if I'm not mistaken.

Beautiful! I'm glad you didn't buy the Fredericksburg car because it had been in a wreck and was way over priced. Although the car was nice I will not buy a car with a bad history, especially a high-end one such as an SL, Porsche, etc. Good luck with your SL!

Thanks, will do just that. And you can expect this one will not get modified or driven too excess. Prior to shipping the fellow picking up the car went over everything looking for at least one item to note but couldn't find a single defect. When the car arrived we were surprised the car was so pristine. Good car to keep in the family for many years to come. Fortunately, my niece's husband is a very successful fellow who can easily afford to maintain the car when it’s his turn to take over. Maybe I should add a caveat that his son has to prove his worth before it's passed along to him. Otherwise one of his sisters should be granted the right to boot him out of line.................(G)
