newb with questions
just wanted to say hi. i finally did it and purchased the 55, should be here in 2 weeks. i'm pretty excited to get things going so i had few questions that i was hoping some of you guys might be able to help me out with. mods i have already ordered 20" 3 piece mesh wheels matt silver w/ polished lips (iforged essens) 4.5" rear lip and 3" front. renn tech decklid lip spoiler, lowering from the linkage, and the Kleeman K1 upgrade.
1) Kleeman K1 upgrade (ecu, pully and airfilter) how is it?
2) need to know where to purchase a CF steering wheel.
3) where or who manufacturers the stainless steel AMG door sill light.
i appreciate anyones input as i am completely lost in moding mercedes.
thanks

congrats on the purchase! Have no idea about the K1 upgrade. CF steering wheel you can get from Kleeman or Wald. The AMG door sill light.. isn't that an option when you order the car from MB?

My door sills came from formymercedes.com and works great.
I have posted instructions on how to install them here if You will do it Yourself:

thanks for all the help guys. especially the install instructions on the door sills. i think the illuminating door sill lights i want are the OEM ones. i wanted the one piece door sill where the AMG and Lines light up.
as for the Kleeman upgrade i believe it's claiming 45hp as the renntech stuff give or take a few points. thanks again guys.

I havent had much expierence with Kleeman, but as far as Renntech goes, most of the time its porducing alittle more power then what they claim. Everyone i know in the Phoenix area has Renntech and all have been pleased with the outcome of it. As a suggestion see if you can find some people with both the renntech and kleeman upgrades that your looking for and see what they have gotten out of it.

wow. Am I reading this correctly? The $400 ECU upgrade from Speedtuning has almost the same amount of horsepower and torque as the $5300 pulley and ECU combo from Renntech! Kind of makes it hard to justify the extra money for so little more gain.
I'm just curious, are these the figures that the respective tuning companies published, or did you find this information from different people posting dyno results?
In any case, this was some real useful information. Thank you.

its from an Autocar article from a previous post. but take in mind these numbers are probably from it's peak, redline HP numbers. what you need to see is the power under the curve. we need to see the graphs to see where the power is at and how long it its being given. regardless $400 for an ecu flash with those numbers are impressive (that is if your engine isn't getting over worked).

I did my ECU with Oliver and love it!! The car is now completely derestricted and is noticibly quicker than stock. Definitely worth $400.

Just cause companies claim to get that kind of power doesnt mean they actually do. Just like the test cars they use for things like Motor Trends, They beef up the cars alittle more then what they say to reach the power claims. IE: the new 06 ZO6's we have seen quite a few of them at the track and noone of them have even come close to the high 11's claimed by chevy... they usually are in the mid to low 13's.
Renntech and Kleeman are the only 2 companies i have seen that have been able to back up their claims on their upgrades with Mercedes. Barabus is a complete joke, They told me for $30,000 they can completly upgrade our SL65 and when they told me the power ratings, it was less then what we were getting from just using a Renntech ECU/TCU and CF Air Box

I have a SL55 with Kleeman Stage 1 and 2.. Kleeman stage 1 a big boost in performance. Three months later I got Stage 2 after hearing how it increased performance and improved the sound. I got the down pipes and the headers and had them surgically cut in case I want to put the car back to stock. The increases in all areas of performance are awesome. You will not believe the sound with the headers let alone the performance.
