SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Electronic Consumers Offline?
But after driving it a short distance, the alert goes away and stays away (for a week anyway).
Apparently there is quite a drain. And charging and decharging all the time limits the lifetime of the battery somewhat.
If the problem persists after a long drive: change the battery.

Since the SL has two batteries with the large one (in the trunk) being for the consumer electronics and the sensotronic brakes, any drop in battery power will dedicate the remaining power for the brakes first and take the less important stuff offline.
When you drive, consumer electronics come back online in sequence, based on importance (seat heaters and reading lights last). This can easily take 10-15 miles.

A sure sign that you don't drive the SL55 enough

Wow, that's a ODD message.

Buy a 3 or 4 step tricle charger, and connect it to the service battery, when your car is in the garage. That will solve the problem.
You can buy it here: http://batterytender.com/product_info.php?products_id=2
Battery drainage is a well known problem on SL´s. Due to the constant power consumption, and the fact that most SL´s are not everyday car´s, and often left in the garage for longer periods, this problem occurs, and i know for shure that there is nothing wrong with my Control module. By using a tricle charger, you always have the full pleasure of your SL.
I have been using a tricle charger for seven month now, and sice it was added, all problems are gone.
I am not an expert on E Class.
Does the E class have a starter battery, as well as a Service battery ?

Yes there are supposedly 2 batteries - small one in the engine compartment and a big one in the trunk.
yes mb makes trickle chatger... all the battery problems will be solved if you plug in a trickle charger... i have 2003 SL55 ... i drive only in summer... the rest of time it is in storage under cover and trickle charger on board to the consumer battery( the one in the trunk)...you might get a critical message....the car is too low...if car has been parked for a while... in that case just start the car then raise the car using the center console switch
good luck
