new paddles fit?

Anyone find out if the new paddles on the 55/65's fit the old yet? I forgot to ask when I was there the other day.

I've got a friend in MB parts in my area, and I had him check on availability. As of earlier this week, he did not have parts info for the 07 SL cars.

I'm looking to do the wheel, and paddles, but once i get my hands on them i'll do a test fit in the old wheel to make sure they work.

Update

I was at the dealer yesterday, and I had my parts friend look into the paddles again. The new 07 wheel is now in the system, but there was no part number for the paddles. (new wheel retails for approx. $2400)
He put an inquiry into Mercedes last evening looking to get a part number for just the paddles. I got the following response back this morning.

From MBUSA: "At this point, paddles are not available separately"

Looks like as of right now, no dice on a retrofitting.

-Audio

PS. On a side note I did order the clear 3rd brake light.

Keep us up to date on the installation for the clear light. By the way; what did it cost?

Thanks,

Lou

New paddles (new steering wheel)

Ok, today both of my cars are in at the dealer for service and they have tried for me a new steering wheel (from an new SL55) with the nice paddles. But they didn’t fit. Because the plugs from the cables are different. So now they are checking for fitting plugs.

I'll let you guys know, when I hear more about this!

well assuming the paddles itself don't fit, it would be very easy to have custom paddles maded for a few hundred bucks at most. you could even have the upshift paddle slightly longer like those made for racing. so if they don't fit i will attempt to make some custom. hopefully they do fit.

No, for example Brabus shows those (see pictures) on the fair in 2004, but they never came in production!

The reason: the material must be soft enough for breaking in a critical situation with your fingers and strong enough for were they are for. Al this because they move with the steering wheel. Brabus shows me a few pre-production ones and they feel very plastic! So it's obvious not that easy to make those things!

don't get me wrong i am waiting to see the out come. but all that technical stuff on critical stress tolerances is BS. i think thats just a story they're selling you on to show the level of RD they do. but i've seen titanium ones and carbon fiber that would probably break all your fingers. seems a bit overly critical. well lets just wait and see.

This is AMG-Merc propoganda!! I bought an aftermarket set of beautifully machined paddles for my M3 SMG for ~$400. They took all of 5 minutes to install and are far superior to what BMW had on the car.

Has anyone priced the factory carbon fiber trim?

Maybe a stupid question, but are they turning with the steering wheel in the M3 or not?

Ok!

It seems to be difficult by the MB steering wheel to make is safe.... I'm looking already a long time for nice paddles. So thats why I'm happy with the new ones from AMG itself! Hope that they can make it fit able on the older models!

I'm in a bad mood!

My dealer called me today to tell me the bad news.....the new paddles wouldn’t work because of the complete new electricity in the cars (E and SL)!

Thank you MB for helping and for the commercial thoughts!
