Who did remove the speed limiter?

I wondered myself how many people this have done. In Europe this is possible from AMG. How is this in the US?

I have don it on both my cars and it's much more fun!

Without the speed limiter you can degrade so many cars.....

I just got the K2 upgrade so I think mine is limited to 300km/h now but was wondering where in Southern California to do a top speed run. The freeways here are filled with cars and I"m reluctant to try it at night due to low visibility and all the potholes we have on our freeeway.

My E55 is limited on 300 km/h so it runs on the speedometer 308 km/u! But my SL55 is totally unlimited (special, special request to AMG). My dealer told me that it will run out the speedometer (330 km/u)!

I didn't try it yet, but who has a 'stock' SL55 with just removed speedlimiter and how fast is it?

(1 km = 0,62137 Mile)

That's incredible fast, but your Sl55 is not stock!

The German Car magazine 'Auto, Motor & Sport' test drive a 'stock' Sl55 on 325 km/h (201 mls/h) in december 2001!

The result was:
0-100 (62,13 mls) 4,6 s
0-200 (124,27 mls) 13,7 s
Both time are not that fast, because a lot of tests are much faster, but:
0-300 (186,4 mls) 32,5 s
That's even faster as an SLR!

So the question is, have MB delivered a stock one, have they done a little modification for the this testdrive, or is it really that fast......????

It was a high speed test..........

And is there anybody who have tried this out?

This is another high speed test from november 2004 in the same very known German carmagazine 'Auto, Motor & Sport' with a SL 65!

MB delivered a stock SL 65 for the test but, it goes faster as a SLR, so can't be a stock one......

What do you guys think?

Back in '03 Autocar (Brit mag) tested the SL55, GT2 Porsche, 550 Maranello, Vanquish, Murcielago for 0-100, 200, 300 and top speed. If memory serves me right the SL55 was the fastest to 300K and was second to the Lambo in top speed...........205 vs 202.

Probably the Britisch magazine bought the test from A,M&S because the cars are the same! The Dutch carmagazines Autovisie do the same sometimes with those very special tests.

So if it is the same test, it's not an answer!

A few other car magazines wrote that they doubt on this test, because the MB's are so **** fast!

You may doubt it but my last trip to the track garnered the following:

I was out in the instructor's group with (in this order), a new Z06, a GT3, my SL55 and an NSX. My passenger noted that the Z06 and I were consistently at the same position on the track (he wasn't pulling and I wasn't catching). We were reeling in the GT3...until he spun off and we ran away from the NSX. All on a tight road course with one good straight away.

I have also had a little stop light war with a friend with a Murcielago and it really had nothing on the SL55. My car is derestricted and I have seen a tad over 200mph, so I know that is the case as well. So there is some real world experience to along with magazine write ups.

Ok, no doubt on the test, but the question was; if that SL55 was stock yes or no!

325 km/h on the test with the test equipment is more as 340 km/h (211 mls/h) on the speedometer!

But I love you're story!

The ECU tuner claims the increased HP/torque. So maybe its not perfectly stock, but it is brilliantly quick, fast and handles

550+ is likely with the ECU/software Upgrade AND a Pulley. Car should put about 590 ft. of torque with those mods, from what I have heard.

Rear wheel numbers can be about 500 RWHP and 510-15 in torque.....that is respectable in my book for a luxurious car.

(My dealer's Asst Service Manager is in the process of obtaining the software and pulley from Rennsport to do just that to my '05)

How did you go about getting your ECU delimited? By whom? How long did it take to get it back? Did you have help taking it out and putting it back in? Any glitches post upgrade? Thanks!
