K2 upgrade

My SL55 is at KTR Performance as of yesterday. I hope they get the K2 done this week. The before dyno was 400 hp at the wheel, and 440 torque at the wheel. Seems a bit light. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I just got my answer today.

Yes, Cory emailed me the procedure to dyno your car.

You as well as others say our dyno reads low, we like to say it is accurate. Dyno Dynamics have been in business for over 25 years. Dyno Dynamics builds both engine and chassis dynos so they have worked with auto manufacturers by dynoing motors on an engine dyno, installing the motors in vehicles and then dynoing them on their chassis dynos. This information has been used in creating the software used in our chassis dyno to calculate drivetrain losses to get HP numbers at the wheels. Another thing to consider is that our dyno is a true load bearing dyno. Other dyno’s like a Mustang are inertia passed so I like to equate these dynos to running down hill. Once you start it is easier to keep going faster since you have the momentum.

If Edmunds.com is correct stock is 496HP and torque is 516 ft-lbs at the FLYWHEEL for a 2005 SL55 AMG.

Our dyno has built in software to estimate flywheel horsepower, we don’t like to publish the numbers because it is one more thing for people to get confused over.

We ran your MB in this mode and it showed 492 hp and 540 ft-lbs estimated at the FLYWHEEL. So if you were to look at these numbers the dyno is nearly spot on for HP and actually shows your car to have more torque than what the factory claimed.

I hope the above explains how Dyno Dynamics have developed there software and why the numbers are what they are.

The pulley and filters are installed, passenger side header is in. The ECU will be back today and the rest of the header system will be installed. I am hoping that everything is finished up by end of day today.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks,
Scott Bertz

Well Ian, guess I spoke too soon. Seems there is a 2" gap between the headers and the cat delete pipes. Something is not long enough. What is a cat delete pipe?

Real Cars
It is a straight piece of piping the length of the OEM catalytic converter which essentially replaces the CAT in the exhaust piping.

It "deletes" the cat by replacing it.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOUUU! 583hp and 628 tq at the crank. I put down 40 feet af flashing triangles at the first launch and the sound is a LOT louder and throaty. The good thing about the sound is that it bellows only when you put your foot into it. At 80 mph cruising speed it really does not sound any different, but put your foot into it and WOW.

Almost forgot, anybody know how to put the SL55 into dyno mode? I tried the trick with the key in position#1 and the odo button and nothing happened. I am getting an error code that says ABC and TAKE TO SHOP SOON. The suspension was also very bouncy and I think the car may still be in dyno mode. I seemed to handle OK after 20 min of driving, but the first 20 min was very bouncy.

The car was fixed this AM. The sensor links were off and the car did not know how high it was. After a few min it threw an error code and went to some default setting allowing the to raise up and be driven.
K2, well worth it.

hey Scruffy,
do u have the new software ECU flash done before the kleeman upgrade? I have a sl55 and did the ecu reflash before K2, so I can't speak whether it made a difference or not? if u check the E55 board and seems like many E55 owner are pissed off at MB for the ecu flash. Cory told me I have the kleeman new software and I wil ltry to dyno the car when i get a chance. I cant' really imagine it being less power than it should be becaues its' already scarily fast after the K2 upgrade. Thanks
Andy

My SL55 was flashed by Benz in May. My new K2 hp is a bit short of Kleeman's claims (-8)and the torque is higher than Kleeman's claims (+20?). Their claims hold true enough for me. The slight variation may be caused by the gasoline, temp, or the dyno. I have read some of the posts in the E55 forum and maybe the sucky dealer reflash only pertains to the E55 and CLS55. They have a right to be pissed if Benz is fakking things up for them. I would be.
Def scary fast now too.
