Aluminum shift paddles for the SL "AMG steering wheel (up to 6/2006)" are on Adobe Reader page #24 at a list price of Euro 400 and a retail price of Euro 464.

The Performance Studio is in Affalterbach, Germany, not exactly around the corner from Ann Arbor.

Anyone know if we can purchase items on the Performance Studio parts list from our local dealers?

Thanks man, but my dealer told me they don't fit on the old 55's! Because of the other plugs and electronic!

I've asked my dealer to do there 'homework' again!

Maybe I'll have to buy a new steering wheel, but that doesn't matter. I really need those paddles!

And........ they named an 'Speedshift Plus 2' with two different shift progammes (M1/M2) with shortened shift times.......a 'Differential lock' and much more.

That's a lot to ask for Christmas this time!

Yes, you need a new steering wheel indeed. My Car is 802 (may 2002) and I got a new one (AMG Performance steering wheel in leather/alcantara) with paddles from the AMG Performance Center. But the paddles are a little bit different from those which come with the newest SL's.

Don't forget that that catalog is not applicable to North America. There are a lot of reasons, but our safety regs are a big part of the problem. Any steering wheel modification, for example, has to be certified with a new crash test for every model it's meant to apply to. The NHTSA has to be convinced the crash dummies don't get an eye poked out by that paddle in an S, in an SL, in a C ...

You have a new speedo meter as well, 330 km/h came from the 2003 models!

Maybe our friend from Germany can help put together a buy, whereby a bunch f us who want the wheel can get them by having him order them for us and they can just drop ship them to us and we can install them ourselves.

Yes, they are working perfect. The speedo meter come with the v-max derestriction.

That's pretty fast, but I have told you before. Your'se has 550 HP! So it's not only just derestricted! I'm wondering how fast it wil go 'stock' just unlimited!

Here's some data, less than ideal:

Automobile magazine says 203 MPH stock. (http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...benz_sl55_amg/)

Supposedly Auto Motor und Sport ran a stock SL55 to 325 KPH = 202 MPH. I can find many references to the AMS article (e.g. here: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/arc...p/t-25824.html) but I cannot find an online copy of the article itself.

This article (http://www.autozine.org/html/Mercedes/SL_class.html) also references the 325 KPH AMS article but claims in addition, "Mercedes’ engineers swore they saw 208mph during testing."

If you guys buy the parts you want, I can install them.
All it takes is airbag and steering wheel to come off, then dissassemble the shift buttons and install the paddles.
MB did not reinvent the wheel to replace a couple of switches. they are simple voltage coded switches. no rocket science here.
My shop is in LA. and I am the only independent SLR tech that I know of.

Mine does have a bit more HP and is derestricted, but I am limited by the car's gearing. It has been a while since I topped it out, but I am sure that it was in the mid 6K rpm's....which is around red line.

Gearing or not....it was pretty easy and uneventful. But I will say that the RV that was several miles down the road came up awfully quick!!

I was out in that area this past summer, hoping for another blast, but unfortunately there was a fair amount of construction...as well as traffic...so no top speed run this year. But I did have a blast on some empty mountain roads instead.

hi guys from uk,i have contacted the performance centre and they tell me that the performance wheel in alcantera/leather does not fit my 2005 sl55 i cant believe this as one of you guys have allready stated in an earlier mail you have sucessfully fitted it to a 2002 model,whats going on has anyone got to the bottom of this yet,why the hell does amg advertise it for our cars if it does not fit or work correctly,damn iive got to have one can anyone help.

In the picture posted, it is an early model SL, you can see where the trim goes up and around the COMMAND unit, so the steering wheel he has, seems it will fit any new-body SL. Keep us posted. I wonder why AMG said it won't fit?

A buddy of mine who lives in Monte Carlo has ordered me a PP steering wheel (alcantara/leather/paddles)...so I'll be ables to tell you if it works. I can't imagine theirwill be retrofit issues.
