In my opinion the best choice of tires are the Michelin Pilot Sport. I am in the tire business and have driven on all the brands. The Michelin will perform the best over the long haul.

The two tire that are approved by M-B for use on the SL55 are the Pirelli P-Zero Rosso and the Michelin Pilot Sport. I offer my opion on the tires that are approved by M-B.

Well, I think one of the biggest reason why MB approved the two tires is they can offer MB a huge discounts by signing a contract with them.

And the P-Zeros are Y rated (186mph), which is fun if you are in Germany :-)
