Oh No……Disaster!!!
Oh No……Disaster!!!
I was counting down the days to the 20th September when I was due to collect my SL55 from Bremen.
Then today MB personal collection ring to say that as I had specified a non-standard colour (Silver Arrow code 777) that the earliest collection date would now be 19th October.
Deep depression has now set in!!!
Still maybe I’ll be able to get the elusive 19” wheels now.
Good luck to all of you who have your cars………Grrrr.!!

Well, I'm passing the time clearing out and painting (!) my garage in anticipation of my car arriving. I don't have kids but isn't that what mothers-to-be do with the baby's bedroom? Variations on a nesting instinct I guess....

Silver Arrow
In the US MBUSA speced their final 2002 SL's as a special edition and gave them a unique Silver Arrow color. It is the same color as Brilliant Silver but has an added dose of metallic flakes. Dealers were erroneously told that the new "Diamond Silver" would be the same color as the special edition Silver Arrow color. That proved to incorrect, however, as Diamond Silver does have a hint of metallic blue that neither Brilliant Silver or Silver Arrow have. The blue shade is most noticeable in the twilight hours outside of direct sunlight.

OK that’s put it in perspective! What’s another month?
Silver Arrow:
Northbenz is right, The last 100 old shape SL500’s in the UK were sold as special editions called SL500 Silver Arrow. They had a high spec with lots of extras such as AMG kit etc.
The paint is more metallic than brilliant silver and also has much less ‘yellow’ content. If you stand two cars together the brilliant silver car looks duller and the slight yellow content shows. The silver arrow car just looks much more silver!

By the way, did you consider the new Diamond Silver? I too love the 777, but Diamond does sound interesting and cheaper I would suppose than special ordering 777. But it's an SL55, all practicality goes out the window.

Yes I did but I don't like the blue tinge. To me it looks a bit like a ladies or 'hairdresser colour.
I had silver arrow on my SL500 silver arrow and it always looked good even when dirty!
