Competition for the SL?

It looks like a beautiful exotic to me. I can't wait to see the specs on it.

Two-tone paint scheme?

On the first picture, what is the black part by the door? Is that by design? Two-tone paint scheme perhaps? I'm talking about the area towards the rear panel right after the door handle?

Just curious...

Agreed... different class of cars... Audi doesn't really have anything to go up direcrtly against the SL...

Two-tone paint scheme: just aft of the door there is an intake which supplies air to the engine, brakes, oil cooler, and to the charge-air intercooler -- I suppose that the different paint there is to accent or draw attention to the intake....

seems to me audi is in seriously shortage of creative design people.... all audi models have the same front design looks .... can't imagine how the management approves the designs.. A3 and A6 are really redundant.... and who would want to pay so much for A8 which looks 99% like A4 ... only the size is different..

btw, what's the matter with their station wagons... all look like coffin wagons...

and the S line, can't they do more to distinguish from A, like what AMG doing for MB?

finally, this R8 just looks like a piece of soap .. like the audi TT...

Not my personal opinion, but from a pure design perspective (non-engineering)... if you ask most professional designers they're going to speak very highly of what Audi is doing. I'd say 80% of the designers in my shop in LA (design studio) are very high on the design direction Audi has taken in the past few years.

The R8 isn't an SL competitor, more like a 911 competitor. The rear treatment is optional. When it isn't body colored you're looking a piece of carbon fiber, very exotic.

would you elaborate more coz I am really curious to know what others think about audi designs? Is there a major reason why the professionals like it so much?

Family face. Just like Bimmers have the kidney grille, Mercedes also has something similair. Lexus is moving towards it as well, and so is Jeep. Subaru has it as well. Porsche (lol) has it as well. Lots of companies have many similarities in their line up.

Is there a major reason why the professionals like it so much?
I like them because of a paradox. They are subtley aggressive.
