My buddies '06 trunk latches itself closed once you get it down - does the '04 have that as well?

Also, when I close the trunk, a lot of the time I will still get the warning that the trunk is open... any idea?

The 06 is the first year to offer the trunk closer. I believe the earlier years have the closing assist, which pulls the boot lid tight after you manually close it.

I no longer have an SL, any current owners care to verify this?

04 SL's don't have the push button trunk closer option. They have the little suction close thing once you push it down. Sometimes you have to push on it a bit to make sure it closes, otherwise you get big red flashing light on console with trunk open symbol!

yeah, im not talking about the trunk self closing mechanism where it brings it down on its own.
I mean if I bring it down, and have it at the latch, will the '04 close the trunk and seal it?

Mine doesnt do that... and I have a lot of problems with the trunk and getting that big red flashing and beeping error on my console... I always have to stop and get out of the car again and try to close it 2-3 more times...

Just want to confirm my first question before I bring it to the dealer and have it warrantied

My '03 has that feature so I'd expect the '04s to have it as well.

I thought that every R230 closes the trunk itself... (no matter what built date). My (German) 2003 does it. But I sometimes have problems opening it, because I sometimes need to press the "open trunk" button on the remote multiple times, before it really unlocks.

I have an 04 SL55 and it does have the automatic closer (close it barely and it pulls and latches itself.)

I've never had any trouble with mine
