Are Twin Turbos Expensive To Maintain??
I have heard that once the Warranty runs out, a TT Merz will break a rich man...........
That is what my salesman at Merz said when I bought my SL 55.......
Is there any truth to that??? Are the Twin-Turbo cars hard to keep in sync and maintain??? I dunno.
Just curious.

I had some techs input before I went from my 55 to the v12 and the tech passed along he had never seen or heard of a problem with the v12's but had seen at least 2 55 motors that had went south. He did say the v12 with out the TT's was another story.

Yes they quite a bit more to maintain than a supercharged V-8.
The V-12 is a big motor with 2 turbos nestled underneath the exhaust manifolds and they generate alot of heat, combine that with a V-12 in a tight fitting engine compartment and every component is exposed to high heat levels under most driving conditions which can cause more things to fail or break more often.
The V-12's have two of everything and that also adds to their high maintenance cost's. IIRC an AMG 65 motor has a retail replacement cost of $75,000 vs a 55K motor which runs around $50,000. These cars have very expensive motors.

Uh, I don't think so. My car has two turbos & it is highly unlikely that they will both fail at the same time. One turbo on the M275 engine will run you about $5,000 + labor. The V8's Kompressor costs about $15,000 + labor so you do the math. ...just another reason why I got the 600 over the 55.

If you think a twin turbo V-12 is going to be lower in maintenance cost long-term (out of warranty) than a Supercharged V-8, I have some prime swamp land in Florida you might be interested in!

BTW - the engine that is causing fellow MB V12 owners the most problems right now is the M137, 5.8L that was developed in 1999 and has the "cylinder deactivation" feature. The current M275, 5.5L biturbo that was developed for the Maybach (M285) has been pretty good so far (knock on wood!).

So how much do you want for that bridge?
I'm not trying to start anything with you as we are both MB fans but you need to rethink this one, ask any MB tech or Service advisor which car costs more to maintain and you will get the same answer.................the TT V-12 will ALWAYS cost more to run!

Big deal ... if you are worried how much it's going to cost to maintain a V12, then you shouldn't be anywhere near this cost range of cars.
Leave it to someone who will take care of it.
