Drivers - whats the Speedshift gearbox like?
Those looky enoguh to have a car - I'm wondering how good the speedshift box is.
I have experience of several - Ferrari F1 (superb), Porche 911 TT (didn't like - after the F1 hard to find the moving 'up' and 'down' selectors as they move with the wheel - realise this will be the same on the SL55) and BMW 1999 ish 5 and 7 series - better than pure auto but not much.
A suppose the next questions is with 500bhp does it matter! Do you find yourself using manual mode when driving in a 'spiritted' manner? Or is the pleasure in the torque!
How quick is the change?
Any feedback much appreciated. I will give my views next week after taking delivery, and some pics of one in Jasper Blue!

Never tested Ferrari F1 but recently I've test the new BMW M3 SMGII (terrified) for 1 hour.
Have drive a AUDI S8 with tiptronic that it's not a sport car so usually use automatic gear in drive position.
What about SL55 gear?
IMO it's fantastic in 90% use.
I try to explain.
Automatic use (drive position):
- Wonderfull while you drive in city, expecially in trafic day/hour;
- Wonderfull while you drive on a "shopping day";
- Wonderfull on a highway;
Manual mode using steering selector:
- Confortable while you drive like "Schumi" on a coast or mountain road;
Manual mode moving gear:
- Not so good as selector on feeling but I find quite faster the time necessary for the speedshift.
But probably all that you feel is one of the better torque in the sports car world .
I don't know exatly the change time but it's not at the BMW level.
Bye
Andrea
