SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: What stereo changes were made 03 to 05?

'05 SL65
I don't know if anything was changed but I've also got an '05 SL65 and want better sound. What systems have you guys put in to this car and are you happy with it?

I went from an 03 to an 05 and I agree the sound system went down in quality. I still cannot get the same sound out of the 05 compared to the 03. The bass and clarity were much better in the 03 - and you could driver optimize the sound in the 03 which really improved things. There is little ability to adjust the sound quality with the 05 system. The only plus of the 05 system is support of MP3. I honestly spend more time listening to the exhaust note now!

Forgive me for bumping and old thread, but this was a question I had as well.
I recently test drove a 2004 SL55 and 2004 SL600 and both had Bose sound. The systems were incredible! Great bass and great sound.
My old 2006 SL55 also had Bose (I'm 90% sure) and it had no bass and did not sound nearly as good. That lack of sound was my biggest beef with my 06.
Perhaps when Benz put in the new head unit in the 05+ SL's the sound components they used were not as good?
