SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Just smoked a hopped up Vette this morning

SL65 VRP1000 and 20" Monolites
Just smoked a hopped up Vette this morning
I was just minding my own business this morning, driving into the office, with the top down, and just listening to the tunes.
Along side of me is this Burgundy C6 corvette, with special badging.. It wasn't a z06, the badging on the fender said 605hp Supercharged, XXyear Anniversary edition, and it had a big cowl induction hood. Had 4 BIG exhaust tips under the lisense plate.
Anyway, he comes along side of me, I looked over and his fender was "right there" so I got a good look at the badges.
Anyway, he looks over at me and gives me the thumbs up and we're just cruisin side by side at about 50-60 mph.
This goes on for a few minutes, and he doesn't look to interested in anything, so I'm not paying him too much attention.
Anyway, the traffic dies down a little and the road starts to open up a bit, then he pulls along side me, and starts to rev his engine, obviously a manual trans.
I look over, and he gives me the thumbs up again.
I down shift into 2nd, at about 4000 rpm.
Then he hit's it, and as soon as I realized that he hit it, I hit it. We never were really even, I just steadily pulled him.
We started at about 50mph, and pulled it to about 100, and I had him by about 2 lengths when we both backed down as we came up on traffic.
He gave me the thumbs up, and then got off on his exit.
Who needs caffeine when you have that!!!

I wonder if he rationalized the loss by thinking, "I started in the wrong gear" or "he must be modded" or "he jumped me at the start and I was gaining".
Of course maybe he just thought, "Note to self, next time just wave to the nice man in the 65."
