Does anyone know the varous "hidden" settings that can be set by the dealer? I just purchased an SL55 (previously had an SL550) and noticed a couple of differences, such as chirping after door lock and the steering wheel does not lift up upon exiting car. Then I started wondering if they were hidden options that can only be set by the dealer (or some other mechanism). I like the "chirp on lock" - my SL550 did not do this. However, my SL550 did raise the steering wheel when the ignition was turned off and I am wondering how to get that working on my SL55. This in turn got me wondering what other options were available.

Lastly, the transmission does not start up with the last mode used if it was Manual and I was wondering how to get that option to "stick"? Is it one of the "hidden" options maybe?

There is no "secret" about the options you mentioned. They can all be altered in the menu in front of you, just read the manual.

Getting "Manual" shifting as default, yes i would like that too, but i havent found any option covering that yet.

Congrats on your new ride is it an '06 or new? I've been debating SL550 or SL55.. did you upgrade to run some track? (sorry for the ot)

It is a 2008 model. It has all of the options, including 030 (Performance Package). The brakes on the 030 compared to the SL550 are much better and have a more linear feel and less initial pedal float. The feel is still not as good as a 911, but certainly much better than SL550.

I just received the car yesterday and haven't done any upgrades. I did find the info. in the manual on Convenience and - the locking noise notification on/off has to be set by the dealer. This is what spurred me to wonder what other options can be set by the dealer. Many of the vehicles I've had in the past had a variety of dealer changeable (ie, hidden from the user) settings. Its very annoying to have to select Manual shifting every time I start the car. It really should just leave the shift mode in the last selected.

The options that you are mentioning can can be set through the buttons on the steering wheel.

If you play with them, you will stumble across the features and be able to set the steering wheel, seat, etc. to your liking. Worst case senario is the dealer can walk you through the process.

Some options are available from steering wheel menu, you can find description on how to do it in your manual.

Some can only be set through STAR Diagnostic Machine. If you are in Southern Claifornia, I can get it done for you.

That was my guess is that there were a set of options that were not readily changeable. Can you elaborate what the options are that can be set via the Star diagnostic machine?

later cars do have a few items removed from the cluster. I am not sure if this is true for the SL but on the w211 e, passanger tilt mirror menu and seat moving back was removed from the menu. This can be activated with a MODIFIED star diagnose system which the dealer does NOT have.
