Maintenance costs SL600 vs SL55
Which one of those needs more $ in maintenance with miles passing by. Not speaking about gas or insurance, just the regular service.
Thanks in advance.

1975 Mercedes 350SL V8 (just sold the SL600)
3 years on and I will give you an answer.
THe SL600 is the most high maintenance between the 55 AMG & 600.
I would not waste your money on SL600 and stick to 55 AMG. I have just sold mine today and glad to see the back of it.

Owning ANY iteration of an R230 SL, outside of warranty, isn't for the feint of heart.
My 2005 SL600 w/36k miles has been mostly brilliant. Aside from some repairs on items that are shared across all SLs, my V12TT has needed nothing.

The SL600 because the engine requires more components for a regualr service. But the things that are likely to break will pretty much cost the same on the SL55 and the SL600. ABC, the top, seats, trunk, etc. will suck your bank account dry regardless of how many spark plugs you have up front.

SL55 AMG
all r230 SL cars have the same issues mainly with ABC parts, SBC brakes, Vario roof etc,...thos can be $$$ ...get a warranty...
aside from that the 55K engine is reliable and the gearbox on both models are stout, the V12 is a beast but parts are more expensive and serviceable items run more $$$ ...like coil packs for example which can need replacing through the course of the service life of the car...

They work out the same. The v12 has coil packs to blow, the v8 has a blower to break. Everything else is comparable.
The question you need to ask is about the characters of the cars. They are very different and dictate which car you would enjoy more.
If the determining factor for you is which one is more expensive to maintain (they both are) - you are prolly looking to bite more than you can chew to begin with...
