Mercedes AMG Power debate 350Kw or 368KW?

i found this article which i though i might share with you all...

Now if the german government told mercedes to recertify the power rateing of the that engine from 350KW to 368KW how would they even find out exactly how much power that engine can produce. i think they used a Dynometer, cause it not like the german government is going to rip the engine out at test it at the flywheel......so if it is 368KW to the wheels thats alot of power.

article from MOTOR magazine in australia

SL55 AMG
The documents with my car (which also confirm it has 4 wheels, 2 axles and 2 doors - nice to know) say 368 kW and there's an update to the User Manual.

this is old news...MB certified the motor at first at the lower conservative number (by regulation the production motor must achieve this number) and then later once they were certain the engine would consistently produce more they recertified it at the higher number...the engine has never changed...hence no change in performance numbers...people at AMG say the second number is also conservative.

yeah i think 368KW on the rear wheels isnt right because i know who powerfull 220Kw on the wheels is......way too powerful for a street car. does any one know what amg's power out put is on the rearwheel cause that will be interesting!

I would make a guess that it's not less than around 310 kW.

368kw RWHP or slightly more is what I'm told my car will be putting out once I have an upgrade kit done next week.

Dyno's measure RWHP (rear wheel HP) and do not calculate flywheel horsepower (BHP) for you. You have to do the calculation yourself to get that figure.

The tuning package I'm getting is one developed locally by some of the most senior AMG mechanics in the country. The package is closely related to these other ones: http://www.europerformance.com.au/tuningkits.html, however I'm told the guy that sells those versions ripped off all the information from the AMG guys and started doing it himself.

I would make a guess that it is less than 310kw. The RW power is something like .75 of the flywheel from memory. It would vary from car to car of course, but .75 of 368 is somewhere around 265.

MB, BMW, JEEP & Suzuki
the E55 has 350kw/476hp --> that's the most powerfull E class now from the MB PRODUCTION LINE.
the SL55 and S55 has 368kw/500hp --> the SAME as the SL600/S600. they couldn't have the 350kw version in these cars because offcourse an AMG can't have LESS HP then a 'Normal' MB car.

greetzz,

matteus
