ask vadim, he should be able to answer that for you. I would think it is a somewhat simple swap. depending on the cost of the engine why wouldnt you just add the kleemann headers, supercharger etc for the same power and maybe lower cost?

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm not so sure it's that simple. Brakes is a deff. no-no. Go with Brembo or something along those lines, and your transmission would need to be replaced to be able to withstand the enormous power of the 55K. Further, I think your computer and exhaust would both need to be reprogrammed/changed to maximize the power output of the 55K. I don't think the diameter of the SL500's exhaust is big enough to allow proper airflow as per the SL55's exhaust.
Good luck with the project!

2003 E55 AMG
its definetly doable since companies like brabus drop the 12 cylinder into there cars, i wonder if anyone has dropped a zonda engine (7.3 liter AMG) into another merc vehicle

As is the case most of the time, you're better off selling the SL500 and getting an SL55. The SL55 has the complete brakes, suspension, engine, tranny software, bodywork, exhaust, interior, and more. Its such a better package than an SL500 with 55k engine swap and will probably come out to the same price if not cheaper.
If you want a real gem of an engine, go for the V12 Bi-Turbo

I imagine because his engine's modding potential would be shot after all that; he'd have as much power as an SL55 and that's it! A simple K&N for the 55 and he's toast. If he gets the 55 engine, he will be able to mod it further.

I wonder if the trans with fix if I can get the Sl55 eng+trans together. I'm waiting on the ramus exhaust system I just order few days ago. I may hit the dealer in the next two weeks to see what I can get on a SL55 and will compair the prices different. Thanks for the info............
Just a thought, isn't the SL500 (with the 55K) going to be faster then the SL55 itself because it weighs less? Seeing as it doesn't have the AMG seats and all the other amenities...

.......The problem is not the mechanical part. The engine will probably bolt righ on. Before you dump lots of cash on this, you need to physically locate and secure an agreement with someone who can CUSTOM tune your ECU. No, not the so called custom tunning you get when you buy powerchip or something. I mean someone that can write codes and modify them specifically for your car and situation to get your car running properly. Again, forget about who can hook up the 55 engine to your car........that is the easy part.

Maybe you meant to say "swap a SL55 engine INTO an existing SL500 vehicle".
