SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: intro.?.

my name is chuck and im in atlanta. i currently drive a '04 bmw m3 (somewhat modded). ive been thinking for a while on my next car to be and have decided on the sl55. it was a toss up between the 996tt and sl however i dont think id ever put it on a track and the vert part helped the sale. so, before purchasing, i hope to learn from you guys through these threads as what to look out for and what to cherish.

What I love about my SL: powerful engine, precise steering, terrific interior, retractable hard top, great exhuast sound, great looking exterior.
On the downside: it's a heavy car (although no more so than an M6 convertible), reliability is a question mark (some people have had issues; others not), audio system is only okay (some people feel it's less than okay).
If you're looking for an SL55, you might want to also check out the V12 SL600 and SL65. Some of us think the SL55 is the best handling car of the bunch, although others disagree. The SL600 is slightly faster in stock form and has the easiest horsepower upgrade (a simple ECU/TCU flash). The SL65 is significantly faster in stock form. But if you're an SL fan, you really cannot go wrong with any of the three.
I have had my SL55 since '03, and I have used it for everything from a night on the town to a track day tool. So let me know if you have any questions.
We also have a fair bit of experience extracting increased power and improving the driving experience in these cars, so ask away!
