SL55 nightmares.. post your story
Spoke to a friend who highly encouraged me not to get an SL55, he had a first year model and said out of the one year of ownership the car was in the shop 3 of the months and had over 50 things go wrong with it...
Would like to hear other stories as well....

Its almost like good wine. Once you have had the good stuff its hard to go back to the 2 Buck Chuck. My 2005 SL55 is Flawless. I agree. Luck of the draw on cars. If you get one that is cursed your going to be in pain.
The only trick mine has played once in awhile is my left license plate lamp.
It will report its out. But its on. So I guess I will spend the couple bucks and replace both of them. Not bad for 20 Months of pleasure.
Looks like its time for tires and possibly brakes/rotors too. Just at 44K miles
for the rotors.

I've had my share of issues with my MY2003 SL55, but I wouldn't call it nightmares. Imagine the depreciation you miss when buying a MY2003 or MY2004 over something new. For that money you can keep it going for a long time.
Besides, if it is well maintained, a 2003 should have had all of its issues fixed by now, or the owner is a dork. Which reminds me: take the warranty.
I had the same thing! I replaced the bulb myself, and no more messages. I guess the bulb was on it's way out anyway.

What a nightmare!!! Can't park the car anywhere without getting compliments and hit on by the ladies. The torque is way too much for me to handle and the retractable hardtop with pano roof thingy makes me wanna drive topless. And what kind of car starts without a key? I could go on....
Other than that...she's a keeper.

Let's see....where do I start?
The car is way too good looking.....
The car is way to fast.....when it's derestricted!![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
and attracts far too much attention, and is very reliable and cheap to maintain.
I was one of the first guys in the west to get my '03 SL55 after waiting 1.5 years for it, and it has been pretty bullet proof.
There have been a couple of issues...the tire pressure monitors were awful, unti they figured out the software, and last summer the AC compressor seized, shearing off the pulley and taking out the serpentine belt. That shut down the water pump, the AC, the ABC and the power steering. Way too much fun when it's 110 degrees out! That has been the worst in almost 5 years. And the fact that the SL55 put me on the path to putting a company together, it has been a great investment!
