Kids with SL55s? I thought my C32 was cool..

It's my second semester at my college. I have seen this SL55 parked around the campus, and I immediately assumed a professors car.. Wrong big time. I saw it driving around the campus with the top up, and a bunch of females started running to it calling the persons name, fighting over who got a ride.. I thought no way in hell, that's a students car? Well finally I saw the day that this illusive rider drove right by me when I was walking to the library, windows down. It was a kid! Tinted windows, and some nice lowering and rims! SL55.. How? Have you guys seen any kids driving cars of that caliber?

20+ to list......
Mass? I've seen that a lot when I was visiting my friends who went to BU/BC 8 yrs ago, even a kid of my friend had an Z8, so it's not too surprising to see spoiled kids driving nice cars around campus.

A number of years ago, one of the girls in my high school got a brand new SL (I can't remember which number) for her 16th birthday. Her dad was a concert promoter in LA. It was that exact experience where I got my passion for a SL. She would drive to high school everyday in this incredible car and she was only 16.

It's no suprise...almost all the time it's the parents' money but on rare ocassion its paid by themself

...regardless it's not really suprising to see a kid with a 100k+ car now-a-days. I know of/have seen college kids with Porsche's, Ferrari's, Bentley's and two brothers that each have their own Lamborghinis etc...

It is so wrong to deprive your child of the joy of earning something you work hard for to appreciate.

I agree. They will have no appreciation for that caliber of automobile at a young age. I remember the stupid sh*t I would do to a car back then.

I can probably beat the SL55 story, though. There was a kid (in the mid 80's) who drove to Corona Del Mar High School in a BMW M1.

There was a 15 y.o. at my kids high school that drove an LS430 to school every day. Nope, no license.
Mustang convertibles littered the student lot.

if you visit boston - BU, youll see tons and tons of nice cars
especially bmws, specifically M3's. One kid has a 911 turbo and there are a few with M6's, and one with a AM V8 Vantage

Come by USC and check out my friends cars. My SL is actually a normal car there, amongst the 55s, 65s, M6s, Ferraris, Bentleys, need I say more?

Parents want the best for their kids and spoil them. This is really a form of child abuse, because it harms them. Kids need to learn the value of hard work and earning their way through life.

That means they were good parents and really loved you and did not take the easy way out and spoil you. Count your blessings.

Not necessarily. As long as your kids are responsible and are doing good in college, there is no reason not to buy them a nicer car if you have the means. Let's say you own a 20 million dollar company and your kids are straight A students in college with a prestigious internship on their way to a successful career... why would you not reward them with a nice car for that? Would a nice car suddenly turn them into lazy bums? Of course not.

Always amusing that the cars (if they have cars on/off-campus) of kids of major financial/tech billionaires at Stanford/Wharton/Harvard-caliber colleges tend to be rather low-key..and often no different than the cars of upper middle class kids from suburban NYC/Chicago....

Also would suspect wealthy kids at lower-caliber colleges tend to be products of Darwinian self-selection....after all, it doesn't cost all that much in (tax deductible) donations to get any dim-witted kid into a first-tier college like Stanford/Harvard/Wharton/Princeton....

High-end car culture is interesting to observe....the typical cars seen in truly high-rent parts of Greenwich/UpperEastSide/Woodside (where many families own large family planes and/or NetJets shares in rather big birds) tend to be more low-key than cars one sees in often far less affluent, but more "aspirational", places where families fly commercial and/or actually drive to Hamptons or LV....

Not a problem if the kid earned the car with great grades and good behavior. Not the norm.

When I was 14 I got my 1st car. 1969 Mach 1 w/ 390 & C6 by the time I was 16 I had a 1970 Mach 1 to go along with my 69. I drove my dads 944 to High School and left my Mach 1 in the garage. Some say that I was spoiled but my dad always said that he wanted to give his kids the things that he never got as a child. I saw how hard he worked and so I try to follow in his foot steps and work hard to achieve the finer things in life. I am not rich by any means but I do well for myself and my family. Those of you with kids know that it's all in how you raise them!

just my two cents.....

I agree. There is no need to hate if certain parents want to buy their children a nice car. As long as the child has everything in order and understands the value of money, it shouldn't matter if he drives a Benz or a Honda. Using myself, and my friends as an example, we do well in school and are good kids. I just took my MCATs and some of my friends took them as well or they took the LSAT. Either way, I never asked for the car, but it was a way of my parents showing me that they are proud and approve of how I handle myself and am taking care of my responsibilities.
All I have to say, is
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Oh snap lol, I've seen a kid with a silver 997TT, and two kids in a blacked out M6 around brighton-boston on massave. The kid with the 997TT raced my friends M3 up a hill, well it wasn't a race, more like a rape, but it TOOK OFF like a bat outta hell- he had a "GTA" license plate also
