SL 55 Heat Soak

OK - I wil preface this thread by saying "excuse my ignorance"...

I live in Arizona where it is in the 80's currently soon to be in the teens (113,114 etc...). I am replacing my IC pump (going with a Johnson) right a way as i am experiencing the same symptoms that so many have had.

My question is has anyone tried or had any succes with installing fan(s) in front of the intercooler? I have seen this done before on other SC or Turbo intercoolers so, i thought i would ask?

I hope that my question is not horribly stupid? If it is, i hope i brought a little entertainment to this forum...

Thank you

P.S., Smart a$$ comments will be well recieved as I have been known to laugh at my self regularly...

It's not a dumb question, but I don't think it would make much of a real difference. The intercooler works by exhanging compressed mixture heat with the relatively cooler liquid coolant. The ambient temperature of the intercooler wouldn't affect the charge temperature much at all. In any case blowing hot under-hood air over it won't make it any cooler than sitting in that same air.

The real problem arises when the flow of liquid that exchanges the compressed-charge heat with coolant is disrupted. But you know all about that.

The short answer is, opinions are mixed but generally lean toward the CM30. The CM90 has a much higher flow rate but some tuners feel the CM30 has more than enough. The CM30 is also easier to install due to its smaller size. FWIW, the CM30 is part of the VRP Intercooler kit: http://vrptuning.com/cart/index.php?...products_id=16

I have your fix. 1st you go to your MB technician and have him adjust your fan mode for hot climates. This will make the fan cut on 10 degrees cooler and stronger. Next don't mess with these johnson pumps. You can afford the best. Go straight to the Dedenbear. I used to heat soak ever since my Renntech headers. temps regularly over the 90 mark. It never gets musch more than 1/2 way between the 80/90. I am in the south with 90% humidity and I run my Sl55 hard. No more heatsoak problems. Just my 2cents
