Yeah, they definitely need to improve the technology, ive seen the '08s and IMO, the nav unit in my '04 XJR is muuch better. Not only do the streets show better, but more imprtantly its TOUCH SCREEN, love it! It took me a while to get used to the buttons and not poke at the screen..

With that in mind, the faults we find with the SL facelift will continue with it until the whole car is redesigned.
With the WORST of them being the side air vents.
This styling element is now found on all manner of car, from Fords to Saturns.
Great move Mercedes Benz with conforming to the design trends of today rather then breaking new ground.
IMHO, this SL will always be regarded for the "band-aid" it most obviously is.
Your right aren't you glad you got one of the last good ones!!!! Just read the 1st drive review in Automobile Mag. They said it was not as good as the previous design and really did not like the front or rearend. Liked the new transmission but said the car is getting to complex to enjoy and that the previous engine in the SL55 versus the SL63 sounded better and performed better. So they tried to say in a nice way that MB blew it.

Yep and all the hate for the new design has died down too. All this BS about how careless it was and how it was a step backwards, what nonesense. The SL63 is a better car than the SL55 ever was.

The ugliness hasn't "died down" for me - I still hate it. It's just downright fugly compared to the last generation R230 bodystyle.

A lot of people don't like a new style, especially when they own the older one

I like the SL63 looks. My first impression though was not the best. It is growing on me fast.

It isn't 'cause I own the older one, I really just don't like it. I don't care for much of any of the new MB styling - the only one I think looks half way decent is the new C class I think I may actually cross over to the dark side next time and get an M3 convertible . Ironically, I think the 3 series coupe is the only good looking BMW as well. The rest are all kinda boring. Oh well, maybe I'm just picky...

The front end just is not growing on me. Looks like a damn Mustang Hood to me. I drove one at FJ. Love the Tranny. It does rev out nice but is missing some of the torque of my SL55. But that hood has changed the sight lines when you drive it. Yuck.

And I was really looking hard at the one they had the other night at MBLN.
Taste of Niguel. The Mesh that is all Metal on mine front and rear is now all cheap azz plastic.

Going to keep mine a couple more years. Lets see what happens with the upgrade to the R230.

I just got back from a Sunday drive, stopped by the MB dealership. They had a new SL63 sitting out. First one I've seen in person. They actually look better in the pictures I've seen. I agree, the plastic looks really cheap and the hood and frontend changed the entire look of the SL design. At this point I don't think MB has a new car out that is good looking. Their not all ugly but for the $$$ they should look way better.

I saw a 63 on Saturday. The wheels looked like they came off of an IROC Z28. I prefer my 65's looks when compared to this.
