Here is a great explanation of the new MCT trans.

MBWorld Fanatic!
MCT would be more impressive if AMG actually would document value of gearbox (vs a 7-sp autobox w/downshift blips) in 70-100MPH accel bursts and NBR times....my sense is even pro drivers are fastest in MCT Sport Plus mode, not Manual mode, given all the network interplays of drivetrain vs chassis computers vs human input re: gear....
My suspicion is MCT is effectively a placebo box that adds little (if anything) to real-world straight-line/twisties perf, but has annoying <40MPH jerkiness, as seen in F's latest boxes....would have preferred that AMG had spent the scarce R&D dollars on a new, latest-tech, lighter NA V12 motor, rather than a one-off MCT box.....
IMO, fast/smart autoboxes in conjunction w/high-tq motors and fast/smart chassis computer networks have largely made paddleshifter boxes into "placeboshifters" for nostalgic elder drivers, somewhat younger than those who still want truly Luddite 3-pedal boxes like those in GT2/3.....

manual diehards have a small "self esteem" lol. gimme a break, mct is the future, if you are stubborn and still want a SLOWER stick car... be my guest but don't let that extra boost to your ego fool you into thinking its faster or better and the latest technology.

WSH, please proffer your thoughts after having driven an SL63. It's fair to say that if you "suspect" jerkiness in the MCT below 40mph and think the MCT has little value, then you clearly haven't driven it.
