Probably a bit of both. One dealer could list on eBay and let his buddy at another dealer know.Originally posted by mookie

This way when dealers purchase vehicles from one another, it is more anonymous.

Saw it this weekend when I was getting my E500. They told me they have already sold 3 at that price. I think they are the worst in the area with premiums. There are plenty of others around asking 159000 and even a few thousand lower for the same car. I imagine in a more rural area you could find one even cheaper pretty easily.

Heh, that's nothing. Fletcher Jones down here in Newport Beach want $242,000 for one of their SL55s....
A quarter million for an SL-55, here we go!

They do roll out the red carpet when you buy a car from them. Not a good place to find a bargain though.

Tis all about supply and demand. Do we think they are nuts? Maybe. But the person who has the money, and does not want to wait, or search for would not think they are nuts.Originally posted by mookie

Also, the supply and demand for L.A. will differ from Florida and other places. Obviously the same goods, and services cost different depending on the region you are in.
The same holds true when I sell diamonds. Supply and demand...
Who are we to call them crazy when people are paying the price they demand for the supply that they are given?
Would I pay that much? Of course not, but who am I to tell a dealership how to run their business when they are obviously making $$$.
Besides, when you are worth $100 million what is $200k other than the principle?

when i was at autohaus the other day i did not see a silver one but a black one was reduced to 189,999. I am not suprised since autohaus always has higher prices than other dealers. for a good example when i was buying my c230 autohaus had it in a 6 speed with not one option.....then i went to MB of Ft. lauderdale and they had one (mine now) with alot of options and an auto for 6 grand less than autohaus!!!! thats alot for a c230. i called autohaus after i bought my car from ft. lauderdale and told the salesmen what car i got with what i had in it and he did not even believe me.

Speaking of how people will overpay simply because the money means nothing to them, when the BMW Z8's firts came out one of the SoCal dealers had one on the showroom pedestal for $225,000 (when MSRP was around $135,000).
The guy that came in and bought it said he needed it ASAP as a gift for his daughter.
Whatever.

Highest rumoured Z8 sale was here in the bay area at ~350k.
Makes you feel kinda good, getting one for 220k less
