What other cas were you considering/comparing with your SL
I am thinking about get another new toy in a year or so. SL55/63/65 are the kind of toy that I am looking at. However, for the same price, there are so many cars that you can choice, M5/M6, AM V8 vantage, F355 .....
I am just wondering what kind of other cars you were comparing/considering while you are shopping for you SL.

Lucky, you from Bahstin? What's up with cas? The spelling police have busted you, it should be cahs.
Anyway, I think the 911TT should be on your list. When I was thinking of the SL, the 991 was the competitor. Since I live in straight road Texas, I would choose the SL55, maybe 65.
I've I ever move back to CT, I'll be in a 911 turbo. (All wheel drive in winter too!)

I took a SL55 for a ride today, then i tried out a '08, 430 hp Corvette convertible. The 'vette seemed to be a lot of car for the money. The more cars I drive, the tougher the choice gets. I am going to check out a F355 on Monday, and they have a gen 3 viper as well. The viper seems a little cramped, but I have heard they are a 500hp beast.

I would test drive an M6 Convertible as well. Maybe Bentley CGT convertible as well if you can afford it and want something more relaxing to drive or Gallardo if you want something more sporty

I used to be a biggest fan of 911TT. However, the icon 911 just seems so normal so how. It looks not much different from a normal 911 and nobody will notices unless the person knows cars. On top of that, it looks like you see one every day.
I don't like to get the first/second year dump from a toy, so I am more looking at a year or 2 CPO. M5/M6, AM v8 Vantage, F355, and SL are all have their pros and cons. For ~80K, M3/IS-F/C63 or even a GTR are in the choice, but they are just not my cup of tea.
I like to ride in style more than HP.
I really want to know from the SL owners are what were the decision making factors to you when you choice the SL instead others.

I've not yet driven an SL55, but have to believe that the extra 190hp or so and forced induction makes a world of difference...

Tried a used Gallardo. Was not that impressed for the money. Viper. I noticed the floorboards get hot after just a short drive. Soon as I started my SL55 I fell in love. I like its stealth ways. Its got the power if you need it but its drivable and comfortable. You can take it for an all day drive and arrive in style and comfort. And the hardtop convertable is hard to beat.
If you try an SL500 or SL550 make sure you get some seat time in the AMG Version.

As to my ability to afford the vehicle in question, it is vulgar comments like that - displaying no class - that give high end vehicle owners reputations of being a**holes. You obviously wish to proliferate that sterotype; nicely done.
And yes...I can afford it, paying cash should I choose.
Have a nice day!

If you are referencing my post above, please note I did not drive a SL63, nor did I drive an SL55. I drove a base model R230. 302hp in the R230 vs 315hp in th R129; the difference in performance did not justify the difference in price, for me personally.

^Then how about the SLR- full leather in there even though I can't say I know how it drives. If we are going to compare cars where money is no object... That Ferrari costs $250K- it better be nicer than the SL.

I guess I was comparing what I paid for my used 612 (167k) to what a new SL63 cost. I know the Ferrari is still more expensive but we are getting close.

The 612 is a great car (a little too big for my taste), but a well done effort from the prancing horse. You also got a screaming deal...... well done!

Only the driver makes out of the car which doesn't matter that you are driving. Respect is the only key to enjoy the car and others.

I think that if you compare used w/used, you could redo the interior of the SL55 in whatever leather you want and come out way ahead.

The purpose for this thread is just simple receiving information and experience from others. That’s how human different to other animals.
I like the sporty feeling of the smaller size of SLK compare to SL. I guess I will have to try a SL AMG to see I am going to like it or not. At the same time, I always want to try something else like AM V8 Vantage. If I decided going for SL, the SLK will have to go. But, if it's going to be something else, that will be more reasons to talk to the boss (for all the married men here we all know who).

It has been great! The Vantage isn't about having the biggest hp numbers, but it is a great all around package. It is very well balanced, good brakes, adequate power, etc. From the package aspect it is like the M3...... well balanced in that no area overwhelms the picture. They all work together. And from a looks point of view, it is drop dead beautiful.... with a sound to die for.

The 612 is much lighter than the SL and really feels that way but yes it is larger.
