MAZ THE SHOP FOREMEN AT CALABASAS MB SAID THAT I CANNOT USE ARCO GAS IN MY SL65!

Mazahir (Maz) the shop foremen at Calabasas MB (a division of Sonic) in So Cal told me that the reason my SL65 dies while being driven, is down on power and has the check engine light on plus has fault codes P2043 and P204A (engine misfire) is all directly related to the fact that a month ago I used ARCO GAS!

He said that the Mercedes engineers are totally aware of the problem with ARCO gas and that there was documentation from MB-USA and AMG to support this.

I seriously doubt this could possibly be true what does AMG or Mercedes have to say about this... I dont want to damage my SL65 with only 9,300 miles since new by using the wrong gas.

I have used Arco for years in vintage racing Porsches, Ferraris and Motorcycles and they all run GREAT! Plus they are all high performance and high RPM/compression engines!

What do you guys think?

I heard ARCO is "watered down" but I wouldn't know. But since their gas is relatively cheap, I would assume that they do not refine their oil as much as big-name companies.

That said, I always use Chevron or Shell. They have Techron and V-power, respectively, that help prevent build-up on the valvetrain. If I have to use cheapo gas I usually get one gallon or two; just enough to get me to my favorite gas station.

Car Whore
doubt it, the ECU would retard the timing to adjust for it if it were indeed that bad.

Go ahead and play the game. Dont use Arco. See what happens and report back. If you dont get that CE and code again I would be surprised.

I would ask "Maz" to name another SL65 Customer that had the same experience too. Or how about some of that documentation.

I smell . Especially if that tank was used out a month ago.

In my SL55 I have never noticed a difference and have used Arco on several
occasions. I even use Costco Premium on a regular Basis. From what I am told its just a good idea to use Mobil or Shell or the other top tier guys for the detergent they add to their gas. So every 4th tank I use them.

But if I had a fresh SL65. I guess I would stick to the "top tier" guys and not take any chances.

They can't sell non-useable fuel

91 is 91 and the only reason I won't use Arco is because they advertise cheap prices but hit you with a 45 cents card charge.

You should check out this article about different gasolines

http://biz.yahoo.com/brn/080104/2417...&.pf=insurance

I use Arco and it has never hurt my engine or performance on my car...as a percussion I do add a Chevron's Techron additive every 3000 miles, and my car runs fine.

I think you're also not allowed near Arco Arena either.
