Exclamation

It all comes down to supply and demand, but a good dealer should never ask a great customer for anything over sticker!!

I have purchased 11 new MBs in the last 6 years 4 have been early delivery AMGs and I never paid over sticker for a car.

What part of the country are you trying to buy the SL55?

If you are not on a list and have to have the car without a wait you should pay a premium to someone that is on the list, think of it as a stock that did good!

Nobody forces someone to pay over sticker for a car.

Look at it this way, two years from now you will be lucky to get 90K for a SL55, its just the way it goes!

Remeber if you sting a dealer and sell the car as soon as you get it you will move way down the list next time around.

In a perfect world the SL55s should go to drivers that want them, and had the insight to put a early order in, and pay no more than MSRP!

Goodluck!

I"m in NY and i've been on the list for effectively a year and a half now and I can't see why this guy is charging me a premium. I want the car, but I'm about to say you know what, that down payment of $80,000 is better in my bank account. They're really hell-bent on charging me a big premium, they won't even charge $20,000 over sticker. it's crazy. I want the car, but I don't need it. we'll see how it turns out. thanks for your help everyone, really appreciated.
P.S. is that how it works, if you're on a list, you don't pay premium? Is that a law from the mercedes factory or something? It seems to make sense that if you're not on the list and you just want the car here and now you should pay a premium. we'll see. thanks alot again for everyone's advice, Otis

Look on your deposit receipt to see if it shows: Selling Price: MSRP.
If so, I think an attorney would be your best bet in straightening this out for you.

Also, My dealer only required a $2500. down payment deposit.

Good luck my friend.

So far, he did well.

I am still breaking the engine in so I am somewhat careful not to rev it too high, but with ESP off it lays rubber at any speed

Definitely a new Mercedes experience for me and thats after driving them for 20 years...

You will absolutely enjoy yours! Keep me posted on who built your engine.

Love those Blue mats with the SL55 embroidering.

Any UK owners got this type of mat. I am still waiting for such a set of mats my dealer supposedly ordered in September!

Any one got a part number for right hand drive SL55 mats - would be appreciated. At this rate I will order from another dealer and send my dealer the bill as they were thrown in with my deal.

Wolfman great car guy...Im loving that black/black combo...Only reason I went white this time is because black is so damn hard to stay perfect if you're a neat freak like me...I HATE SCRATCHES!!! After driving numerous high performance vehicles, the 55 is up there my friend...It drives like no other benz, the active body control is tuned so much differently than my SL500...It has a lot to do with the brake setup as well when you are flying around corners and such...I'm glad to see you are happy with the end product though, who wouldn't...If I were you, I would throw on some really nice 3 piece wheels on the vehicle...The multi-spokes really don't do it for me...I finally ordered the Lowenhart LS1's in Silver/Polish combo...The wheel dealer said I should get about a 2.5 inch lip on the rear which should be real nice...ShyneSL

Wolfman:it's a sport pkge.Stock wheels look better, are the same size and now I think the sport pkge is a ripoff at $5100.
I think it's also a ripoff to put these rims as standard on a CL55.
The car has way more power than last year so why narrower, uglier wheels???
S55 on the other hand has the new twin spokes!!!!

The car is absolute perfection. Change nothing on the car. Especially those wheels which were designed for the car. Changing them changes the handling characteristics of the car. Even the 5 spoke rims make a difference according to an AMG tech/engineer. Aftermarket rims would probably result in unfavorable handling or ride quality. But anyway, the car is beyond words. You just have to stare in quiet appreciation. Anymore pictures?

rims tho.. make the car! changing them always reflects your personality (or your sons hopefully soon)

i want my dad to get some spinning rims which aren't chrome.. on our black sl.. 19" .. would it look nice? lol

i love black cars.. i am a neat freak so thats why i spend soo much time washing and waxing the car.. i wax and wash every week.. the car always ALWAYS looks like new.. no joke..

sometimes i'll just sit in the garage staring at the car.. for hours and hours i just admire how they came up with that!

btw.. heres a pic.. i think its a sl500.. i took it while i was gettin home from the bus today so i didn't see exhaust.. i couldn't find the V8 Kompressor tag either!

i wanna say sl55 tho because of the front bumper and stuff.. i'im confused!! lol

ShayneSl,

Love to see some pics of the Lowenharts when they are on your car, should look great.

Regarding the multispokes, I will swap them for the 19" AMG Style IV two piece wheels which look great on the car , show off the brakes really nicely and most importantly, are easy to clean.
They also keep the factory AMG look (option when purchasing the car in Germany) without going overboard on size or chrome. Truly have seen some nasty wheel combos on the R230 boards over time.

IMO, the multispokes are very classy but look best on a silver SL55 with berry interior.

It's snowing here so I am waiting for a dry day to take some better pics. Snow also puts a damper on my desire to put some "quality" miles on it.

Ride quality will always reduce with increasing rim size, but I am not sure why aftermarket wheels would be worse other than they are poor quality or are not following the wheel offsets. The 5 spoke, however, should be the same as the multispoke. Did anybody drive both and experience a difference?

I was planning to get the 19" AMG Style IV wheels, but they were specifically designed for the SL55 by AMG and I have heard good things about them (ride quality and high speed performance)

I checked on the german AMG site and all new CL rims have the narrow rear wheel, but also a different wheel offset. They still also have the old ones available.
Still surprises me to have the CL55 with 265 rears and the SL55 with 285 rears.

Technical reasons? You may want to post this on the CL board...

Either way I am sure that you'll enjoy your new ride

Thanks!

I love the looks as well. It definitely has "presence". I actually used a relatively old (by digital standards) Nikon 950 camera.

Quote of Tobias Moers, Head of Large Scae Model Series at Mercedes-AMG as quoted by Sports Car International July 2002.

"You can have 19-inch AMG five-spoke wheels as an option,"..."but while they may look more aggressive to some eyes, they do begin to introduce a touch of tramlining on bumpy cambered roads. This is the reason we used 17- and not 18- inch wheels on teh C32 AMG. "

The following is my favorite quote from that article: "Although we are the high performance and you could say 'fun' division of Mercedes-Benz, we still have to make cars to suite a wide variety of tastes. But fo you want a more extreme and tightly focused car, we can do that for you through our 'special wishes' department."

Has anyone gone through this 'special wishes' department or know anybody? What kinds of cars have been produced by this dept?

Special wishes eh? Time to tell dad! LOL!
I think someone from the Official AMG forum should help us out a little.

I´d like to ask something, can you get the SL55 with manual transmission? Because all i saw were auto. Does this auto have an option to change the gears manual?

only automatic. U can get a "tiptronic-like" transmission though which is kinda like a manual but the gear change isn't as fun and fast.
