new sl63 vs used sl65
Hey - i'm new here, and to MB in general, and would really appreciate your expert opinions...
Not sure if i should purchase a brand new 2009 sl63, or go with a couple year-old sl65. I like the newly updated style, but continue to be drawn to the thought of owning the V12. I don't want to drop 200k on the new 65, either...
Pros? Cons?
Obviously you can't go wrong either way, but i'm having a tough time making a decision!
Thoughts?
Thanks!

The obvious answer may not be so obvious after rolling in the cars

+1 to Juicee's advice...try to get a little more seat time in each.
The SL65 has huge amounts of torque--especially low in the power band--while the SL63 is slightly lighter with a higher revving V8 and a nifty dry clutch instead of a traditional torque converter in the transmission.

2006 SL55 with 030 Performance Package
Drive them both two great cars but different in the way they drive
SL65 is faster in drag race
SL63 is more of an athletic sports car with a great exhaust and awsome New MCT wet clutch 7 speed
I prefer the overall driving experiance of the SL63 but make no mistake the SL65 is a monster that delivers the power in a unique way.
You must drive them both its a night and day difference you will know what you like very fast
Let us know what you think, I have not driven a 2009 SL65 it might be tuned different from the 2005 to 2008 SL65

60MPH and up the the Twin Turbo 65s are just monsters the TQ is insane
I think I would need full day in each car, maybe the massive TQ of the 65 would win me over the boy racer feel that I like so much in the SL55/SL63
No question if you want the faster car at higher speed the V12TT SL65 will win every time

Not bad advise G-Kats Iam still wondering if I should buy a 07 08 SL55 with 030 at a great price, the SL55 is great car with a very fun engine it kind of reminds me of 2 stroke engine in a good way compared to a refined 4 stroke
Throttle response and seat of your pants TQ is awsome in the SL55 I regret selling mine
G-Kats how long of test drive in the SL63 what did you not like compared to the SL55

thanks
Good thoughts - i appreciate 'em.
I test drove a 63 w/800mi and loved it. Gonna have to find a 65 to drive - haven't done so yet. No used ones on the lot at the dealership, and they mentioned over the weekend that they anticipate all of the '09s will be special order only - no stock inventory will ever be on hand...we'll see.
I assume the 65 isn't completely without handling & athleticism, however, right?

I've been test driving the SL63 and SL55 a few times (there aren't any SL65's around), and I haven't been able to make up my mind yet- I like them both in different ways; they each have their strengths and weaknesses compared to each other in my opinion. I wish I could take what I like best about each and put it into one car.
Don't listen to dealers saying there aren't going to be any SL63's on hand. My dealer was telling me the same thing and now they have 3 (one w 030) sitting on the lot, one of which has been there a couple weeks.

Wait....there is no post in a thread comparing a new 63 to an "old" 65, by a certain member...let's just call him W$H...that compares the technology to a cell phone?!?!? This must be a sign of the apocolypse.....

SL 55 AMG
Murtaza!!! suck my dick u REJECT
as for the SL63 test drive ..... i actually got to mess with it for about half hour. I felt a big difference in steering , very easy to turn the car . Take off was more quicker but less powerful (not as jerky) the sound didnt suite the car @ all . I didnt like the feel of the new seats for some reason and the steeringwheel looks like BMW made it . As for the drive, it was grippy but didnt feel like an SL . ide say more Mustangish , just as light too. it just didnt feel heavy @ all. I wouldnt grab one if i had the money to waste .
My opinion ..... dont bother ! when dealer walked me over to all the SLz parked outside i couldnt tell which one was the 63 from behind . it was Parked with 03z rite up too 09z .it didnt even give me that shock feeling . it still looks the same pretty much.

To many to list!
Thoughts?
Thanks!

2007 Escalade...looking at SL AMGs right now...
decision time...
Alright, I think i'm sold on a 2007 sl65 CPO w/low miles...it's already taken the hit on the chunk of the short-term depreciation, but still getting the raw power of the biturbo. Perhaps the ego in me wants the 65 over the 63, also - oh well. Silver on silver with carbon fiber trim. Now i just sit and wait...and start learning more about potential upgrades and mods. Anyone have recent $$ figures for comparison before i have to negotiate price?
What would you recommend for a premium stereo experience? I don't think the standard MB sound package is going to cut it.
From experience, what are the other top additions/changes i should consider making? I'm not looking to completely pimp this out, nor will i be racing every other wannabe on the street...just subtle upgrades to round out my soon-to-be new ride.
Thanks!
