Took the SL55 to the drag strip

Hey guys,
Took my dads bone stock 2007 SL55 to the track for the first time ever tonight and got to do 3 runs. I could have got 2 more runs in if some other cars didn't spill some fluids on the track which took about an hour and a half total to clean up. Average temp for the 3 runs was probably 80 and the tracks' elevation is about 1000 ft above sea level.

Now with the runs:

1st- 13.427 @ 112.3 60ft-2.363
I had traction control off car in S mode and 1st gear selected, I got little eager/nervous and instead of rolling into the throttle I got into it way too aggressively. I probably spun for the first 25ft before backing off and getting traction.

2nd-12.678 @ 114.5 60ft-2.217
I left the traction control on, S mode with 1st gear selected. This time i just took my foot off the brake and rolled into the gas pretty aggressively with not wheel spin or ESP intervention. Let the car shift by itself through the gears.

3rd-12.680 @ 114.74 60ft-2.215
Same technique as above.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how the car and myself performed. My launch could use alot of improvement obviously. I ran the car with the stock wheels and Michelin Pilot A/S (Extreme Performance All-Season) tires that are 275/35/19's in the back. I think that if I could practice my launch technique more and get some kind of drag radial mounted on a old set of 17" or 18" wheels we have laying around I could get my 60ft below 2 seconds and hopefully run a 12.3.

If anyone has some advice or comments feel free to speak up

Good job. Rather consistent times when the traction control is engaged.

Those are remarkably good times for all season tires!

Easing into the throttle definitely helps, as you discovered.

Next time, if you run the street tires, lower the pressures in the rear tires, selected the softest suspension setting and DO NOT do a burnout in the "water" before the run. You could concievably run a few tenths better just by doing this.

Thanks for the comments, probably won't get a chance to take it back to the track this year. Hopefully I can get some drag radials for next year to see if I can get into the low 12's.

Nice runs, does your Dad's car have the 030 performance pack. Comes with a mild limited slip differential, not sure if that would make any difference, but perhaps could help with the launch.

No, it doesn't have 030, so no LSD. With some stickier tires, and some practice launching I'm hoping to improve the times considerably. I would love to run 12.3's stock but I'm thinking that might be a little optimistic.
