Help with different tuning companies

Hi Guys,

I have decided that I want to upgrade my sl55 with headers and cooling pkg. I already have a pulley and ECU upgrade.
Renntech, VRP and Evosport all do shorty headers, which is what I am interested in, and they all look great, promising about 20hp gains and ceramic coated etc. However big difference in price if you look on their websites with Renntech being most expensive by 50%. Can renntech be that much better quality and will it make such a difference?

Also in the ICP upgrade packages you see differences in prices as well as components. It seems VRP basically uses the Johnson CM30 marine pump, whereas it seems after talking to Renntech they use a purpose built one which they say in much more efficient. Having said that the renntech pckg is twice the cost! The evosport cooling package looks good as well and is pitched in price between renntech and VRP. I am confused and need enlightening from anyone with personal experience. At the end of the day, is it truly a case of you get what you pay for?
Thanks

Not a lot of response to your questions, Klekoni. You might try asking again in the E55 forum. There's quite a bit more engine modding activity over there than in this forum.

I have the Evosport shorties. I can't imagine the VRP shorties or the Renntech shorties flowing any better or having a longer useful life. If I recall correctly, Vadim at VRP designed both the Evosport shorties (a while ago) and the VRP shorties (more recently). The design goal for the VRP shorties was to create a less expensive but equally high quality set of headers. If I was buying shorties today, I'd buy the VRP set.

In terms of cooling, I still have the OEM setup. So no personal experiences to share there. If you do a forum search for intercooler pump you'll find a lot of threads, some of which have quite a bit of useful info.

You should go with a shop that is in your area that you can trust, which is really hard these days. You want to make sure that you can go there anytime for technical support if needed and that is dependable.

If your located in Southern California, I would recommend VRP Depending on your budget and how much power you are looking for, I would also recommend you get Long Tube Headers over the shorties.

I'm also in the same boat kinda. I have a stock '03 SL55. What upgrades would you recommend, how much would they cost, and what kind of return would I get out of the car? Thank you very much for all your help.
