2004 SL55 AMG
Hey Lou:
The way to access the clearance lenses is through the plastic fender shroud inside the wheel well. I believe that removing 4 screws will allow you to access the lense and bulb plug which disconnect easily. I watched my suspension/tire guy do it. As far as smoking them, it comes from a smoke tint spray paint for taillight lenses. Your lenses will show red at night though it's nice. Just make sure that the edges are sprayed as well to prevent an amber ring around the lense. Also, putting a coat of clearcoat for protection works well too.
Here's the product. I've done a lot of searches for a smoke paint that turns amber with no luck. It seems that this VHT Nightshade is the universal and only commonly available product on the market right now. Finally, try a search to find a better price as I've seen it at a different online store for around $8.00 a can:

Good Luck and enjoy!

Help
This is my car - now b4 everyone goes crazy it is not an SL55 it is a 500 with a Kleemann Supercharger,Brembos,HRE's, Suspension Module,UltraSuede Interior, JL Audio Amps, Navi screen modified to play DVD's,SL55 taillights, and too many other things to mention.
It has been in numerous magazines including last months issue of Luxury Modified and Exotics, CarAudio, DUbs, Plush and others I can't remember.
It is the feature car on AIDes******** and it has won trophies at Hot Import Nights.
I am trying to sell it and I'm wondering what you feel is the best outlet for it. I have placed it on EBay b4 and that was a disaster - everytime I posted some idiot would hit the buy it now button and never pay.
I don't want to spend hundreds on Dupont just to have window shoppers.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Looks great! I am thinking about adding that same rear spoiler. I here there is no drilling required and am wondering how secure it is with what I am assuming is a double sided adhesive? Would it pull right off if someone pulled it? Also, do they sell them painted or unfinished?
Thanks

I would get the performanceproducts.com rear spoiler..
i have it on my SL and I think it is MUCH cleaner than the lorinser one.. the lorinser one is 3 times as much and doesn't even look as good...
not very good pictures, but it's all i have of the spoiler on my car.. looks very integrated into the exact curves of the rear end & rear lights, while the lorinser, imho looks kinda clumsy on the back..
i have nothing against lorinser, i even have the lorinser orange reflector bumper deletes from them on my car :> just overpriced and not very attractive imho for that big long 8oz piece of plastic..

why would anyone go crazy? it's really ugly and no taste to be honest. it would look nicer just to stick hundred dollar bills on the car. you turned a really classy SL to a cheap japanese sport car, like NSX.
no wonder why u can't sell it at ebay.
